June Q&A Answers | July questions go in the comments!

Here are the responses to June's Q&A event! Be sure to post your newest questions in the comments and they'll be answered next month!

What artists and styles have the largest influence on your work?

I feel like my tastes have changed SO much over the past two years. I was influenced a lot by more cartoony styles at first before transitioning into the stylized semi-realistic. Some artists who really inspire me ow are Charlie Bowater, Ahmed Aldoori, Sakimichan, and Marc Brunet - among some others!

Pancakes of waffles?
PANCAKES.

Is there a story behind your nickname?
The name actually came from a really old WoW character(thanks name randomizer). Since that was many years past and I just really liked the name, I later ended up creating an OC named Sylessae. She's just a silver haired elf without much real backstory.

What is your favorite drawing done by you?
I always tend to really like the newest pieces I make best (since I get to show off the best quality work). But in terms of old favorites, I will always have a place in my heart for the portrait of Dalindra!

What do you think you can do to improve as an artist and in a more general way?
Every day, I really wish I gave myself more time to just ACTUALLY study. It might sound silly but I could improve so much more if I had a consistent study schedule.

In general, I think its important that I work on taking breaks, finding a balance in life, and just relaxing (you guys need to hold me to this LOL).

What do you like to do when you are not drawing?
I really like playing videogames, reading, and playing music! Since I spend so much time inside, I always love a chance to get outside for a hike too.

What do you know now that you wish you would have known sooner?
I tell this to a lot of newer artists because I struggled through it so bad... Don't compare yourself to other artists! It's great to have a standard, but always remember your own achievements and that you're always growing  in art (even if it's hard to see it at the time). You'll look back one day and be SO proud of yourself if you stay consistent and work hard.

What's your opinion on traditional versus digital, both for the sketching part and coloring?
I know a lot of artists who sketch traditionally AND digitally before they color. I think that they both have benefits and aesthetics but most of all it should be what you are most comfortable doing! I think it's good to experiment with both ways to discover what you like best!

Where do you get your inspiration for your webcomic?
Josh and I wrote a story when we first met online and it really got me excited about bringing it to life visually!

What is your absolute favorite thing to draw and why?

LADIES. Honestly, I'm not sure why. I think it has to do with the fact that I really love drawing gorgeous hair and curves.

Any ETA on streams?

I will be trying to host them more! They will likely be infrequent due to my internet quality but I'll try and keep everyone updated!

If you weren't creating art for a living is there another career path you'd feel passionate about?
Yes! Actually, I was a personal trainer for a handful of years before I became an artist full time. I really loved that job and if art ever fell through, I would probably do that again!
