Unforgiven (1992) MOVIE REACTION! FIRST TIME WATCHING!!

Comments

If we’re talking about pre-1970’s westerns (their heyday) there’s The Wild Bunch which feels very modern despite its age, The Ox-Bow Incident, Shane, Rio Bravo, High Noon, The Naked Dawn, Destry Rides Again, Forty Guns, Red River, Winchester 73, Giant, Stars In My Crown, Johnny Guitar, Vera Cruz, The Tall T (personal favorite of the bunch). Would definitely put The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance on this list as well. I could list 50 more but I won’t resort to obnoxiousness.

There's a lot of Westerns out there and you've seen a more modern tale of a western in Unforgiven but much like the way you guys went back and watched a classic in Psycho I think you should consider watching something from years back. There's plenty of old westerns that are really cowboy and indian types of flicks but those dont really interest me. The Good the Bad and the Ugly or even further back like The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance with John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart are better movies to take a look at. I'm sure there will be plenty of people suggesting Tombstone and a couple others that are good modern Westerns, but trying something like that out first is like visiting the candy store before you've had dinner. Westerns is a genre I haven't fully taken a long time down the trail with but I'm sure someone else here can recommend some more good classics for you.

Just watched this while doing lunges in my brand new "Trust Me, I'm A Filmaholic" shirt. Who says you need a Film Buff tank top to truly exercise unenthusiastically?? Not I! Similar to Shaun, I'm not extremely familiar with Westerns either. I've narrowly avoided being drawn & quartered by the entire state of Indiana for that. The most notable ones I've seen are Stagecoach (GREAT one), The Magnificent Seven, Django Unchained, True Grit and Blazing Saddles. I respect the genre as a whole, but they definitely have their noticeable tropes as most do. Most entries seemed to succumb to the tropes without adding their own substance to revitalize the genre until Unforgiven, it seems. I've never seen this, but now, I'm anxiously awaiting the full-length. The sheer humanity displayed in every scene......so rich and refreshing. All of the characters concerning themselves with the morality of the entire situation they find themselves in....so well-written. From what I can tell, excellent performances from Clint and Gene. Nothing better than those two gems. As far as Clint goes, I've only seen a few of his films. Gran Torino (fantastic) and The Mule......oh shit......that's it......I'm the worst Filmaholic :) Gonna have to add Unforgiven to that list pretty soon. Can't wait. Great choice, Tom! Also, something that's gonna keep me up at night......if horses don't grow in England, what animals do grow there? I've heard dragons and possibly tie-dye unicorns. Is that true??? If so, I'm gonna need proof. Not sure if I believe it.
