I think you have to understand the impact of the passing of time on filmmaking. The Howling is forty years old, and made in a very different time and with very different filmmaking techniques, and for a very different audience. When watching both films side by side for the first time now, that huge difference becomes very apparent, but I believe you have to judge things in the context of their time. The Howling deserves recognition for the incredible special effects/makeup which were revolutionary at the time and elevated it beyond its hokey style and B-movie feel. I don't love The Howling, but I respect its achievements. Possessor is a very good film and deserves respect for its achievements too, and I agree that it is a better film in terms of direction and editing and script. I think it's just apples and pears to compare them. Also, IMDB scores are often nonsense lol.
