I really need to watch it again, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I definitely agree with a couple of opinions here already. This falls into my list of adaptations that really cement my opinion that even a limited series is better than a movie. I think there's just too much missing from the source in terms of character (and characters). In the end, I'm still glad we have this.

Penthilus

Responding as someone who has not read the book (on purpose, though I have it and will read it), coming at it with no real knowledge of the story beyond the trailer, I found it immensely entertaining and overall pretty delightful. I thought the two leads had great chemistry with each other, and the story was most engaging. It was fun to see the headmaster of Truham as the king and refreshing to see Rachel Hilson playing a character who didn’t have nearly as many bad things happen to her as Mia in β€œLove, Victor.” If, as I know others have said, there were things in the novel that were left out, all I can say is nothing seemed to be missing. So now I look forward to your reaction video, and then to reading the original novel.

Lane Wright

I enjoyed it more the second time, maybe because I was able to take away the pressure and expectation of it being a close adaptation and could just enjoy it for what it was. I still wish some things were different, but so it goes

Charlie

Agreed. I am probably being too harsh. I have only watched it once and should re-watch it.

Graham & Ruth May

I think Jackie always makes up his own mind. That’s why I love his Patreon.

Went in with relatively low expectations as I rarely enjoy book adaptation but was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved it. While a bit bummed some things were cut, they only had so much time to tell the story.

Jess Thompson

my view is already formed and video filmed so post your reviews, please!

It would be best if you keep your review to yourself so that he could form his own opinion with any influence from others.

GroovyGadget

Can’t wait to watch your reaction. Loved it!

Matthew Steinmann

Inspired by the book, not really an adaptation that honours the novel is the most I can claim for it, although I enjoyed it for what it is. Sad about some of the omissions and changes and especially how I think those affect Alex’s journey. It felt rushed to me and as if a lot of what I think is important was either censored to the point of beigeness or drowned in Hollywood saccharine- but I was probably expecting too much or being too harsh. Good entertainment but can’t help feeling it was a missed opportunity.

Yea I watched it and I have some thoughts. A few of the changes make sense, some were sad but I kinda got it and then there was one glaring change that made no sense at all. It was a fun movie though

Rosie Dickinson

Same. I enjoyed it but I have some qualms with some of the changes from the book, or some of the things they chose not to include. I wasn’t expecting it to be a word-for-word adaptation, but I think they could have made different choices in some parts. That being said, I really did enjoy it

Charlie

I watched it the minute I woke up this morning. πŸ₯°
