About the Manga

• Plot

  • Go Ichimonji is an extremely athletic kid who nevertheless intentionally underperforms at track and field tryouts, but he can’t fool Hayato from the original Getter Robo series and his samurai friend Sho, who want to recruit him to pilot the new big robot. That night he’s attacked by a big Frankenstein cyborg zombie and manages to defeat it before being rescued by Hayato in Getter from a giant metal beast. The metal beasts are under control by the evil Doctor Rando or maybe Lando depending on your translation. 

  • Go wakes up on a helicopter in the middle of a military assault on an evil cyborg zombie hospital. Go and Sho manage to commandeer a metal beast before again being saved by Getter. Go watches Getter destroy a metal beast and thinks it’s the coolest thing ever which he’s right about. Back at the base Go and Sho train to pilot Getter but the third pilot is deeply traumatized and is quickly swapped for Gai, a mechanic who loves and believes in Getter Robo. Professor Rando issues a declaration that he’s got the best army in the history and he’s gonna conquer the world, when Sho notices that her dead brother is in the video. Hayato explains to Go how he used to work with Rando at a research facility but turned on him when he found out that rando was gonna turn everyone into robot zombies because it turns out he really loves doing that. In fact it looks like he did that exact thing to Sho’s brother!

  • Rando drops multiple megaton bombs across Japan, threatening to blow them up if Japan doesn’t surrender and give up Getter. Go, Sho, and Gai pretend to betray the country by stealing Getter and going to Alaska to help America fight Rando. When they arrive they find that there aren’t many survivors but manage to save a few natives and soldiers. They try and call Hayato to pick them up while Getter protects them from the metal beasts. Low on energy and with Sho badly injured, Go prepares to self destruct Getter when suddenly an American transformer appears and saves them. The robot, the Stilva, is piloted by John Rembert and Schwartz, who is a huge racist. They’re brought to a nearby base where the survivors are waiting for them along with their old mechanic squad from Japan.

Where it could improve

• The pacing is kinda slow I really don’t know what’s going on in the first chapter

• This is hard to follow if you aren’t familiar with getter robo but there’s limits you can nock it for that

• Still like when robot

• These characters are all cardboard cutouts

• I think this plot doesn’t make sense but I don’t want to think about it hard enough to confirm that

• This is all icing and no cake

• The plot gets pretty complicated pretty quickly 

What it does well

• Man this is some dope art

• I like they show the robot at the start though the rest of things is a bit slow

• Really gets into the meat of having some fun action

• Knows not to have too much text am I right two on ice

• Motherfuckung stress scars wow 

• Sho is an actual woman character neat!

• Global scale is cool 

• Damn the bad guy doesn't fuck around 

• I'm a politician goes hard

• Legit sense of urgency and stakes 

• CYBORG ZOMBIES

• So. Much. Action.

Where we hope it goes

• It could use well some more substance, the characters feel kinda one note

• Needs more depth to the villains they feel like Saturday morning cartoons 

Misc Thoughts

• What if they played Go during this

• Where is the spiral power 

• This really does feel like a Saturday morning cartoon where people can die 

• Everyone has really pronounced uvulas

• I feel a post apocalyptic getter would be sick

• There’s something so fun about reading a series where the bad guys are legitimately mad scientists 

• I want them to fix up the busted robot and call it Better Robo Go
