My initial reaction was the same: Ellie should have been given the choice. But then I remembered…. Ellie is a CHILD. We don’t let children make their own medical choices, much less ones of this kind of consequence, because they are not mature enough, their psyches, their minds, they are not ready or capable yet to do so. Much less a child like Ellie who has experienced so much loss and trauma. While I agree Joel made his choice for perhaps selfish reasons, would any parent’s choice be described much differently? Overall I applaud this outstanding show for spurring such thought provoking debate.
