2023-07-14 06:27:15 +0000 UTCMy husband’s aunt (by marriage) sounds like that… but she’s from Charleston money, not Texas. I think Hollywood imagines there are two southern accents, rich and poor, with no understanding of regions or even variations within states.

2023-07-12 23:13:34 +0000 UTCThis trailer leaves me feeling a bit apprehensive since adaptations of my favorite novels rarely meet expectations. Also not sure about casting. Maybe it’s me but the actor playing Alex comes off as swarmy. And Uma’s dialog seems like out of sync ADR. I grew up in Texas so maybe I’m just having a knee jerk reaction to her stereotypical portrayal. It’s an accent that exists only in Hollywood productions.

They’re pretty full on, but really important in terms of Alex’s character in particular and if they’re diluted or skimmed over in favour of accessibility for a wider, younger audience then the book would be misrepresented, in my opinion. I read somewhere that the author collaborated on the script so I hope that means my apprehension is unfounded.🤞

A bit dubious about the guy playing Alex, but as I don’t know him or his previous work, I probably shouldn’t be pre-judging him. The guy playing Henry I have only seen in a fairly recent film called Purple Hearts, which was a bit meh in my opinion and I admit that I am forever prejudiced against it because the song from it won Best Musical Moment, when it should have been Simon’s Song from Young Royals. 🙄

2023-07-09 19:41:07 +0000 UTCI may be one of the few who has not read the book at all, though I can tell I’m going to have to get it and read it very soon to keep from having all sorts of things spoiled for me. It does look intriguing, but at the moment I have no way of knowing how well it will capture a book I haven’t read. The two leads are very attractive, and I also noticed that Rachel Hilson, who played Mia on “Love, Victor,” is in it as well, and I like her. Anyway, I’m glad I’ve got a little over a month to prepare for it.
