Aside from a bit of gross-out humor, which is not my favorite kind (I tend to find it gross rather than funny), this show continues to be quite entertaining in a totally offbeat way. And it was only recently that I realized that Israel “Izzy” Hands was a real person (though to be honest, I didn’t know that Stede Bonnet was a real person before this show). So, in addition to being entertained, I’m also learning things.

2023-12-02 03:25:23 +0000 UTCYes, that's what I love about this show as well. It's certainly making statements, but it does so quietly, without big announcements. They glided though an entire conversation between the crew in Ep4 about how Jim is still the same person despite a few changes with barely a ripple, but it's a beautiful conversation that in many shows would have been the center of the episode with a speech about identity and a lot of angst. Instead, everyone just said, oh yeah, we like Jim. And moved on. Plus it's a genre show with multiple queer storylines/relationships central to the main cast, and it's correcting the history we're usually taught re: the diversity that actually existed in the pirate/outlaw community at the time.
