Patreon update - February 25th 2024

Goooood afternoon beautiful Patreon family,

A patreon update? On a sunday? I know, I'm breaking all the rules this week.

It was only midway through the week that I realised I didn't put out an update on Monday so instead decided I would wait until the end of the week to update you on a few things.

Firstly

I am thrilled to say that for the first time in weeks I am feeling somewhat human again. This illness has been ongoing since the beginning of December and it has been driving me insane but this last round has really knocked me back and I've felt really off for the last 2 weeks. However, the cough is starting to go again and I feel so much better in myself. Once the cough has fully subsided I will be able to continue with Our Flag Means Death!

My filmmaking course:

This week was the final week of my filmmaking course and I have loved it so much. I haven't been able to dedicate as much time to it this week as I wanted to but i will catch up over the coming week and I am SO excited to start putting everything I've learnt into practice.

Next

my trip to NYC for my birthday has almost been completely confirmed (just waiting on one last little detail before I can book flights) but I am VERY excited at the prospect of spending a few days in the city before heading down to florida to spend my actual birthday with Reiss. There's a ton of shows I want to see as well as a whole bunch of friends to see too. There may even be time for a little Patreon meet up for anyone who is in the area!

Next - quite a large update and one that I have been keeping under wraps for a couple of months.

Since moving to back to the coast I have decided to dissolve the freelance side of Jack Ross Media. I really struggled with the creative process of creating content for others and having to create things I wasn't happy with. I struggled with having to let go of some of the creative control while giving the client what they want instead of what I know is best and towards the end of my time in London it was really making me resent content creation and I could feel it starting to affect my feelings towards YouTube & Patreon. I have fallen out of love with creating once before and I don't want that to happen again.

So from here on out Jack Ross Media will serve as a production company for my shortform and longform projects and I will no longer be taking on clients. Creating "Thank you, Alice Oseman" last year really gave me a taste of the stories I want to tell and I want to head down that road moving forward. I'll be spending time over the coming months to revamp the website to reflect my work accordingly.

Unfortunately, on that note, Patreon & YouTube doesn't pay the bills anymore... It certainly doesn't pay for documentary filmmaking. So, out of complete necessity I have had to find a fulltime job again as I am currently struggling to keep my head above water while trying to fund these longer form projects.

I don't see this impacting Patreon in any way for the foreseeable but I will continue to reassess as we move through the year. For now, we continue down the same path with the same upload schedule :)

That's all for today. I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

Love, always <3

Glad to read that you feel better. I really hope you found a job that not only pays the bills but is also enjoyable. Especially since it’s a full time job! All the best 🫶🏽

Jackie, I’m so happy that you’re on the mend. Hope you find a job that helps with the finances and is enjoyable (well as enjoyable as the work thing can be)! Peace of mind is so important! Thank you for all that you do. You’re so talented and an absolutely wonderful person.

First, I am glad you are feeling better, being sick sucks! I think it is great that you are focusing on what will bring you joy and contentment, not everyone finds that is their life, and I look forward to the amazing things I know are in your future. I am excited for the possibility of you coming to NYC, and I hope you will get the chance to se e Sweeney in person, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts of seeing the production as a whole… Please keep taking care of yourself, and I look forward to chatting on the discord and bugging you on Twitter… Also, hydrate! 🙃🙂🙃

The right things happen at the right time and I think you know best what works for you. If freelance didn’t shape up the way you originally thought it would, you tried it and learned something important by doing it. Keep calm and carry on! x❤️

After reading that, all I can say is I'm so proud of you 🙂 It is so important to let go of the negative things to keep the passion going for what you love. I'm a massive heartstopper fan and I loved your content before that but after watching your thank you Alice film it made me respect you in a whole new way. I have always had a love for the creation of film but I don't have the smarts to do it 😜 I'll stick to my photo editing Instagram page 🤣 I'm also very glad you are starting to feel better. Hopefully you can see the end to this sickness very soon. So excited for you for NYC. I really hope you get to see Joe perform as I know you want too ❤️

It is so important for your mental health to be happy with what you are doing! So I think you made a very brave and good decision ☺️ I hope it all turns out the way you want it to 🥰
