Reacting to Young Royals Season 3 - Episode 3

Goooood morning beautiful patreon family,

Sending my love to you all for today as I know the final episode airs today and I know it's going to be emotional for a lot of people. Whatever the outcome we can all appreciate the emotional journey this show has taken us on and our lives have been enhanced as a result!

Today, however, we are jumping into Episode 3 and I can confirm it's the first tears shed by me for this season...

See you in the comments!

Love, always ♥️

Just arrived here at patreon. I just want to say that you are truly the best reactor (is this a word? haha) I've seen! You actually watch properly, you pause if you have to say something, so you don't miss stuff, and you know who the actors and writers are (and appreciate them) You are the first reactor that watched the hallway scene properly and actually saw it's beauty! (btw, I think they have had sex before, in s1 when august filmed, and s2, episode 5, we just haven't got to see the full act before). If you watch it again, and look at the music lyrics you can see that's it's about the spring coming, the beauty of it and the flowers blooming and it's suits so well since they are "blooming" together in this scene. Either way, THANK YOU so much for your reactions videos! I can't wait to binge watch them all today! Lot's of love /Hanna

First, you look lovely in the purple! I am finding it different watching through these with you, vs when I watched them for the first time, because I know where it is going. I do like going back through it with your commentary, you notice things I might have missed or overlooked, but also seeing it again with the knowledge I have makes some of the things hit differently than on my original watch through…

Erin

The acting in this series is really top notch, Edvin and Omar without question. But I have to give a shout-out to Malte. He is actually playing two characters and he is pitch perfect in both.

Dennis Verner

i really like the beginning of the episode when they are walking in to the school (despite it being sad) because it shows that its not just Wille that is having trouble with communication, its something they both need to work on.

Dan

Didn’t really like the last ep, but this was the complete opposite.. and some of the songs here almost made me cry with nostalgia. Ut i vår hage is one of those that every swedish kid knows by heart 🥹

I love your reactions so much. You so often match my reactions and I love seeing it. I remember watching the music room scene and thinking “I can’t wait to see Jackie’s reaction to this scene!” I giggled through the scene and just loved seeing them so playful with each other. (Btw, I still think Nick and Charlie kissed in more “risky” locations but it’s close for sure!) I also cried for the first time in this episode, same scene. The song played during that scene with Sara was painful. If you haven’t listened to it, go listen to it, it’s kind of my “Why am I like this” from Heartstopper. The song is “Dream” from Seinabo Sey. (I’m listening to it right now)

Kimberly Green

The phones bit why it keeps changing is because Wille can't use his phone most of the day only for an hour but he is Crown Prince and needs to be spoken with several times a day. So when it doesn't look like his normal phone it's one of the bodyguards phone.

I’m actually in that same place with the show. I think there’s a lot about it that does work, but it did seem to me that the consequences should’ve been greater. And yes, I find that song the most emotionally resonant in the score.

Lane Wright

I sit on the fence with the show. I don't think it deserves to be as harshly judged. My friend actually did her masters on how the show misrepresents mental health and I totally hear what is being said. But i do think it's a devastatingly beautiful show. So Big, So Small was the number that got me... I was inconsolable after that song!

Since there’s not much I can say that others haven’t already said at this point in these comments about the episode, I’m going to focus on starting this reaction video with a little bit of Dear Evan Hanson. DEH seems to be a particularly divisive show, in that people really love it, or absolutely despise it. It certainly resonates with some people, but there are also people who feel like it misrepresents mental health, and that the main character gets away with bad actions with virtually no consequences. But even the people who don’t care for the show have tended to like the character of Evan‘s mother. And I think “So Small, So Big” maybe the best song in the show. (It certainly didn’t hurt that Rachel Bay Jones sang it.)

Lane Wright

At least it's their first scene in this cursed music room that doesn't end in an argument or misunderstanding :D And I guess we can now say that both Eriksson siblings enjoy riding :P

Well, I am back, only to discover that the finale doesn’t drop until 5pm and I am tutoring a 10 year old girl just before that. How am I supposed to concentrate on preparing her for SATS ? 🤯 Anyway, at least I have been able to watch the rest of your reaction. This episode is definitely a roller coaster but then that’s absolutely Young Royals: drama in every sense of the word. The intimate scene in the hallway and then in Wille’s bedroom is the most beautiful and sensual intimate scene that I’ve ever seen. It looks and feels completely real. Just my opinion and the fishes scene in season 1 comes very close. When they’re together in the hallway, kissing and taking off their clothes, it’s a wonderful deliberate parallel of the scene in season 1, when Wille is going to the bathroom and pauses in the hallway when he sees one of the boarders making out with a girl. His face as he looks at himself in the bathroom mirror reflects all the misery that he feels about not being with Simon. I think there are also indications in this episode that while people can and do change, sometimes they might not be willing or capable of it. Sara says to August that her Dad's ‘good spells’ usually don’t last long, suggesting that she expects him to relapse. August seems to be a better person when he’s with Sara and to genuinely miss her, but it’s going to be a long way back for him in making me believe that he is fully capable of changing. On the other hand, he’s presented here as having natural leadership qualities, in organising the petition and putting Vincent in his place, saying, It’s better than complaining’, when Vincent suggests it’s pointless. You’re right- what an episode.

Love the purple hoodie Jackie.

It makes a lot o sense! Thinking of that Wille and Felice's father mirror each other too. They learnt to conform. They don't believe things can change, that they have the power to change anything. They learnt to play by the rules. I feel Willhem doesn't stand up for Simon agaisnt the other boys very often because he was taught to not comment, to not take a stand, be neutral. Simon is trying to show him that he can and he should.

Ingrid Machado Pena

I have a theory about how the story with Felice and her father mirrors the issues of Willhelm and Simon. The royal court wants to use Willhelms' relationship with Simon to show the monarchy in a good light. The school wants Felice to talk to the inspectors as she shows the school is diverse. They are both being used as tokens in a corrupt system. Felice and Simon mirror each other as recognising the issues at the school with how they are treated. Felice is going to tell the inspectors what happens at the school. Her Father put up with the treatment he received at the school and thought he should just be better than the other so he would be treated the same. Willhelm does not stand up for Simon against Vincent and some of the other students very often. Simon challenges the system all the time. I think Willhelm will become King but will change the system, and I think he will do this because of what he has learnt from Simon. I think the system is the issue, not who is the monarch. The system is wrong, and if Willhelm abdicates, it will not change the system. We may get an open ending but this is the message of the show revolution.

Jayne Riley

I think the Royal Court is deliberately not supporting Simon. They leave it to Willhelm to sort out but I also think Willhelm doesn't want them to talk to Simon as he is afraid of losing him by letting him know the full picture. We know that it's the wrong approach but Willhelm just wants to be with Simon and is they are both ignoring the issues they have and using affection thinking that will solve problems. They are actually acting like the teenager's that they are. Also Simon does not speak Spanish this season when he usually speaks Spanish a lot with his Mum. He also said he is finding it hard to relax while singing and you can't hear him above everyone else like you previously could. This is showing Simon is losing himself. Last season it was Willhelm who needed to find his voice and at the end of the season he did but he still needs to learn how to use it. This season it's Simon who is losing his voice and needs to find it again. As for August we are getting more insight into him he is still a selfish impulsive person but he also has a damaged sense of himself he has the attitude of a lot of emotionally damaged people I have worked with. He will behave badly and push people away He wants to make people reject him because he believes he will be rejected anyway and is not worthy of love. Even when he does try people don't believe he is genuinene so he gives up. As I have said before August has been an emotionally damaged child.

Jayne Riley

Yes, it's not the first time, their first there was filmed by August and he filmed when they had just started. Then there was the time at Simon's place that starts with the fishes names. But we just got to see some foreplay. But you're right, Frances, that is the first time when they are officially together and very much in love.

Natasja Mrdjanov

I think that the Queen needs a major intervention to deal with her Grief to help her deal. Someone certainly needs to reach out to Wille! I can’t imagine feeling so alone at such a young age. Hugs to you Jackie! 🫶

Good Morning Everyone, it’s 3:45AM here. It seems I’m not going back to sleep anytime soon so let’s see what happens in the episode

Safe travels to and from your appointment Ruth.

completely agree with your thoughts about how wille has been really abandoned by his family and left to his own devices and expected to take “responsibility” I really feel like all of them treat him like the “crown prince“ before they treat him like a son or a 16 year old. But I think that’s been pretty consistent from s1 😭😭 also it’s hard bc I get where both of them are coming from. I understand how it’s so easy to get caught up in those comments like simon is and also Willes perspective how he just ignores them bc he’s always been in the spotlight in a way. But yea I don’t think neither of them really could have known what to expect when they actually did make their relationship public. :( I’ll say it again tho, I’ve always thought the monarchy was a toxic institution and has been since the beginning of the show Also the contrast between the town during may 1 and the privileged students at hillerska 🥴 (Also I loved the kid who asked simon for a pic. I think it’s nice to show that while there’s alot of negativity there is also positive effect too)

veri✨

You are right. Each episode is a rollercoaster ride🙈

Anja

I can only watch half of this now because we have an appointment today in Plymouth which means a lot of driving while I stress about not being able to watch this or THE FINALE until later…🤯 Back this evening, unless I have gone into isolation or joined a silent religious order after watching THE FINALE first…🙏🤞🙏

Ruth May

One of my favorite episodes, mainly because of all the lovely scenes with Simon and Wille. I mean the sex scene alone is so beautifully shot!! Before I started watching season three, I was hoping that there would be more „I love you“ moments between them. And that“I love you“ at the end of their intimate scene was perfection in my eyes. I actually don’t think that this was their first time. But I would say it was their first time as an out couple being deeply in love with each other ♥️ which is just as special as the actual „first time“ I’d say ☺️
