Sidequest I - How Microsoft is Destroying Console Gaming By Destroying Themselves.

Hey everyone!

I hope all of you wonderful Patreon people are doing unbelievably great - and that anyone who was mean to you today suffers a hiccup that lasts for hours!

The first Sidequest video is already finished and it is about the Microsoft/Activision merger.

I challenged myself to produce the video in just five days, because I don’t want those videos to slow down the main content too much for now and I’m pretty happy to report that I actually managed to pull it off, even though the video is almost double the length I anticipated it to be.

I had to take tons of shortcuts during editing to get it finished in time, so don’t expect anything close to the quality of a main channel video - but I think it still ended up being an interesting watch.

Hope you all enjoy it and thank you for your support!

I love this format! As some others have said it's like a podcast in that I can listen to it in the background, and I'll always love more of your content. I hope these sidequests become an incentive for others to join your patreon.

yeah basically all of this ^ agree 100%

Some very interesting thoughts and ideas there. Didn't mind the reduced editing in the slightest- meant that I just sort of treated this as more like a podcast once I realised that the background graphics weren't *that* important to the points being made

Thanks a lot for the video Ceave, super interesting and informative analysis! I also agree with most of the comments that you should feel free to drop to basically zero your efforts on video editing on these side quests. We love you for the scripts and if it helps you to keep the work at a more manageable level, feel free to transform these side quests into a podcast. Heck, I already basically just consume your content as a podcast! And it might also make it sound better from "outside" Patreon: we do not get access to "secret private videos", which might sound like you are hiding to the non-paying user part of your standard content, but we get access to a different content, the Ceave-Podcast! (which is the same thing, with a different name...) Loads of warm fuzzies! I am looking forward your next side quest!

I definitely agree with the others, it was a great video with lots of interesting perspectives. Your analyses are fascinating, & I'm particularly impressed that you managed to put this together in 5 days, even with the cut to editing. Even if it was only a monthly thing, I'd still be really happy. Thank you for the work you do, & I'm more than happy to give the support! Regarding the topic of the video, I'd always had a gut feeling game pass wasn't going to work, and this video does an excellent job putting the 'why' into words. It's also made me rethink my approach to the retro gaming market as well.

I loved the video! I hadn't voted for this topic originally, but I was quickly surprised by this exciting analysis - so i enjoyed it quite a lot. I'm 200% happy with this style/format for a supporter-exclusive vid! Nice stuff. On topic: Would be amazing to see Nintendo make a powerful product again, but i dont think its happening. Their focus on family and handheld kind of necessitates the cheap hardware package. The Switch was such a success, i don't think they will stray too far from it.

Hi Ceave and interesting video as always. For different reasons I'm pretty pessimist about what will happen to the gaming world in the next years but for different reason, and your video (don't know if it's a good or bad thing) making me a bit more sure about the doom and gloom that is approaching. But I think it's a storm we can weather. Also, I really like the Sidequests idea, to the point I wouldn't mind you covering easier or restricted topics with shorter video (that are also for sure easier to make). Especially if it's discussing current topics and events that may not be covered in more complex essays.

There are certainly tons of similarities to Disney buying up IP's! It's going to be intresting to see if the games market is going to evolve similarly to film in the long run!

I agree with the sentiment of the other comments here. The strength of your content (from my POV) is the script and the spoken words. Good editing then makes it palatable to a wider YT audience. But if 95% of your work on videos is editing and only 5% is the script, I much prefer that these side quests have low-quality editing but keep the high quality scripts over a rushed script with good editing. In fact I would go so far as to say I would even watch you talk over a PowerPoint slide deck if that's even less effort for you. In fact this is exactly what I have seen other channels do (mostly Perun).

I posted this on the video but just in case I'll copy it here too: I really liked this video, the format reminded me of the videos you did before your break on the gaming channel that were just about Nintendo's practices in general like the video about why Nintendo had to rush out Sunshine. I've always preferred your 30 minute videos about the gaming industry in general covering multiple games over your new format of covering a single game, although those new videos are also really good too. If these side quest videos are going to be similar in format to those older videos then I would be a huge fan of them!

the sidequest video intended for some 20-30 minutes ending up twice as long is beautifully on-brand. I really like this format. Your scripts do a lot of the heavy lifting for your video quality, so the lack of high-end editing doesn't hurt the content too much, and having footage from various different games throughout the video gives a nice anchor point for my attention without feeling dull or repetitive.

I thought that the video discussion was very interesting. It reminds me of how Disney has bought up so many franchises over the past decade or so. The difference between Disney and your predictions for Microsoft, however, are that Disney tries to revive all their IPs that they have purchased, while Microsoft may only keep a few around. What do you think about this? Great video, by the way. It way way longer and came out sooner than I expected. I appreciated the hard work that must have gone into it.
