When the Master Comes: Speed Trap Part III
Added 2024-06-27 22:02:24 +0000 UTCThe drive into town proved what Mark had thought. His families old home was declining. Every other shop they passed had a GOING OUT OF BUSINESS sale or was boarded up. The little college on the hill didn’t so much look like a shining place of learning as it did a dingy collection of old brick buildings. Above the low hills the college was on were the climbing spires of the Rocky Mountains, the high slopes obscured by clouds, a sign that fall had ended and Winter was on its way.
He smiled. It would take a few weeks, but soon he’d be able to do what he came to do.
He followed the police car to the city hall/police station. It was small, dingy like the rest of the town, the freshly painted sign informing him this was the Connerston City Hall only calling attention to how the rest of the building was old, paint peeling from the walls, a few windows grimed over. But the police car didn’t stop there, driving into the back where a sign informed him he was entering the Connerston Impound Lot.
Mark chuckled. At first glance the lot had a number of cars in it, a sign of a successful speed trap.
Second glance showed the cars were all old, dented, some with rust on them, plants growing up around the wheels.
I guess some people just decided to cut their losses and leave. These were the cars that nobody wanted, that people were willing to just abandong and get a new car rather than deal with Connerston—all the while telling their friends to never come to this little town. The police car stopped and the two cops got out of it, and Mark smiled as he let his eyes roam over their generous asses. Beatrice was curvier, but Susan was also well padded, the kind of woman who would look good in anything—or nothing. She waved him into the parking space, and Mark drove forward.
“Are you certain you don’t want to just pay the ticket?” she asked, and Mark heard a bit of pleading in her voice.
He shook his head. “We should all submit to the legal process, don’t you think?” At the word “submit” Susan shivered, and Beatrice closed her eyes for a moment, and Mark felt the surge of desire, a surge that filled his own mind with power. “After all, if people disresepct the law, then don’t they deserve to be punished?”
Susan bit her lip, and looked down for a moment. “Ah, yes, sir,” she said. “But you’ll have to file some paperwork, and then you can go to the hotel you’ve chosen.”
“Without a car?” Mark asked. “How would I get there?”
“Um, we could take you!” Beatrice said, the woman wringing her hands. “I mean, it’s only fair after we caught you in the speed tr—after you were so polite!”
Mark smiled. “Very well. Let us go.”
With that, Beatrice and Susan led mark into the police station. He noticed that the two were swaying their hips a little more than normal.
Once they got inside, Mark looked around. There was an old, battered counter, behind it a little glassed in room where a woman was handling the radio. From the way she was reading a book, Mark assumed there wasn’t much going on.
Likely they were the only two police on patrol. That’s all they need to write tickets for clueless tourists… who then tell everyone else to never come here.
Which explained why the station looked so shabby. Enough money to run a vacuum over things, not enough to replace the water stained tiles on the roof. But—
“Tits! Ass! Get in here!”
Susan and Beatrice both blushed, then Beatrice turned red with anger for a moment, but they didn’t refuse, heading to a door with a sign on it.
Chief Wilkins. The man standing in it was grossly obese, with unidentifiable stains on his shirt, gesturing for them to come in. Susan glanced back once at Mark, and he thought he saw… regret on her face. But then she and Beatrice were both heading in.
Mark sat down and frowned. Can I… Yes. He could. The book didn’t just teach him magic to influence people, after all.
“Goddamn you girls did good this day!”
“Um… yes sir,”
That was Beatrice’s voice, speaking to the chief.
“We couldn’t get him to pay the ticket.”
“Oh, fuck, Susan, who cares about the goddamn ticket. Either he pays, which gets us more money or he leaves the car, and we can sell it—unless I decide to take it. Nice set of wheels. Keep doing this, and I might give you a special reward.”
“Thank you sir…”
Even through the sorcery, Mark could hear the disgust in her voice.
“You better. Remember, you don’t got many other options, Ass. Tits, you pay attention to your training… officer. She’ll show you how to fit in.”
“Yes, sir.”
Mark withdrew the sorcery, as the door opened and the two girls came out. Susan’s face was red with anger, and Beatrice was blushing.
“I have the receipt for your car,” Susan said.
“Thank you.” Mark smiled. He didn’t need magic for this. “It is good that your superior values you and your partner so.”
Susan’s face got redder. “Yes. It is.”
“Um, there are only two hotels in town, which one are you staying at?” Beatrice
“Well, I was going to decide when I got here,” Mark said. “But since you two will be driving me, how about if I let you make the choice.”
“Oh, that’s good.” Beatrice nodded. “The Gates, is the best place. Back when there was a lot of skiing and hiking, it serviced the tourists, and it’s still open. Boston Arms is…”
“Practically out of business,” Susan said. “And it has bedbugs.”
“Then, ladies, let us be off,” Mark said and gestured to the door. Following the two officers, he smiled.
Soon.
