Hypotheticals for Hat Chat ep.125

Option 1

Memory Pawn Shop

A new business crops up around a new technology, which it uses to buy memories from people, and sell it to other people in a shore where they can browse. Once you buy a memory, you can take it home and experience it as if it was yours.

There are two methods of getting the memory from its originator's brain:

"Mnemonic Imaging" (MS) makes a copy of it, leaving the original in its originator's head, but producing a lower-quality image. It'll likely have abstractions, like a person in the original memory might be replaced with a person from the user's brain, or there could be other abstractions like that.

"Amnesic Full Transfer" (AFT) takes the full memory out of the person's mind, creating a copy that the user will then experience exactly how the originator remembers it at the time of the transfer. However, the originator will forget it in the process.

Generally, memories extracted by either method are up to an hour in length. Trying to extract a longer segment of memory at a time causes it to become foggier the longer it is.

Anybody can go to the Memory Shop, describe their memories, get an appraisal, and sell their memory for cash.

Option 2

Curing cancer at a cost a hypothetical question

You find a cure for cancer but it comes at a cost. In all situations you haven't done anything but will be accused.

Situation one you will be accused of child abuse the worse type. You will spend three months in jail before being freed. You make no money off this deal plus you will get no official credit for the discovery and everyone assumes you leveraged/bribed your way out of jail.

Situation two you get accused of murder same deal go to jail for three months get freed everyone assumes you did it but bribed your way out.again no money can be made for you from the discovery and you will never get official Credit for it.

Situation three a celebrity commits suicide and there note meantions you as the cause for them ending there life. In this situation again you make no money off it as well. You can't get credit for it.

Option 3

You have Michigan Frog syndrome

For reference the Michigan Frog is the cartoon where the frog will only sing and dance in front of one specific person, who is then unable to capitalize on it.

In this case you're unable to perform in front of anyone. You have literally the world's greatest singing voice, and you're the world's best dancer, but you can't perform in front of people. If you even think someone might be even able to see you perform, you completely clam up. This means no recording. No setting yourself up to be spied on. It would have to be a true accident.

What would you do with your talent? Just entertain yourself?
