I love how the first episode was reintroduced here. That man (ice alchemist) who the Elrics fought at the beginning of the show was right and had he succeeded, would have defeated Father's plan. I always wondered how he learned of the homunculus's plan (a spin-off series following him would be interesting; maybe he was also a previous candidate like Ed and Al). So in a weird way Ed and Al helped extend Father's plan without knowing it right from the first episode. They ended up stopping an ally.
