I agree!! Walt is so full of pride and we've seen many times how keeping his second life a secret has hurt him because he can't get the recognition/credits for his "hard work"....I think he thought he went through a lot worse and felt jealous that he couldn't be admired by his son in the same way o.o so unhealthy!!

Walt has so much of his own 'war' stories he could tell his son but he can't say anything about that part of his life. You were right that he was trying to get control. back. Even though his son puked and he made an ass of himself...he was the cause of it- no one else. That was that satisfied smirk with the drink and the close up on him.
