Ivar actually wouldnt of killed his father, he was just upset he wasn't asked and treated the same. Ragnar most likely didnt think Ivar could kill or fight him. Ragnar also wasnt actually trying to die like that,I think it was a test, Odin also hung himself from a special tree I believe..& to be fair Ivar hasnt been disrespectful hes has Ragnars humour and banter but is extreme in everything he does. He feels more than he let's on but will never show his true vulnerable side to his brothers since hes desperate to be seen as a equal. & yes Ivar doesn't want pity he wants to be normal but he never will be and needs to own it to find his greatness. & Ivar isnt paralyzed, he can move his legs but they're brittle and break easy. Ivar is in pain most of the time hence his anger/rage.
