More medical drama (and a slight delay).

Friends:

I regret to say that my wife's mother took a bit of a fall and cracked a vertebrae in her neck. It's not as bad as it sounds...but it's not good. My wife is right now flying to be with her family and help get her mother settled in the rehab facility.

As you can imagine, the situation has delayed video production. Our final video of the year will be coming out Wednesday or Thursday. Sorry about that.

On the other hand, it's a good video. We're doing a complete history of Stanley handplanes with an emphasis on finding affordable vintage planes for restoration. We hear all the time from people who can't figure out tool prices on eBay. We understand and we're here to help.

I just finished shooting today, and I can promise an energetic and information-packed video.

I'll be back with a new video in just a few days.

Courage.

Wishing your family a happy new year and a speedy recovery to your mother-in-law

Ross Hollar

Hi Rex, thank you for all you do , like you know your purpose, it is a good one, I got inspire to work this winter, and have two transitional planes that I want to bring back to life, do you include transitional planes in the workshop? I will definitely get the video to learn some tricks , quick recovery for your Mom in law and happy Hollidays for you and your loved ones!!

Dr RAUL ZAVALETA

Wishing you and your family the best, Rex. I'll actually be driving up to Cleveland for the holidays. Years from now we'll all question this "need" to churn out content to such a degree. We don't have to play the game....In fact, hand tool woodworkers are already in opposition to this disposable mindset.

Exploding Head Lady from Total Recall

Very sorry to hear of your misfortune, may your M-i-L quickly recover.

So sorry for your mother-in-law's cracked vertebra. I recently cracked my elbow - and that was bad enough. But her neck?! Seriously, I wish her nothing other than a speedy recovery and a joyous Christmas.

I have 2 (formerly) cracked vertebrae in my back screaming at me at this moment, so I know how your MiL feels. Just the thought of it happening to her made me draw breath through clenched teeth. Sending healing thoughts to her and best wishes to her and your entire family this holiday season.

Thank you for all that you do to inspire and educate the woodworking community. I am relatively new to woodworking, and I have gained a great deal of experience and confidence from the videos and plans that you create. I also teach at a Montessori school, and this year I have been able to share the hand tool woodworking experience with small groups of middle school students, and Iโ€™m happy to say that there are now more than a dozen young people who have learned how to use chisels and block planes. So cool! Take care of yourself and your family and we look forward to your next video.

Eriq Powers

I am rooting for you

Floppy Jaloppy

Hop she recovers well. Until any swelling subsides, often can't get the full picture. MRIs are infallible, the do have blinds pots to the imaging. I have an L5S1 left sided disc compression that happened in 1983. Out of work mostly for 3 urs, couldn't return to my Nursing profession. Managed to score a job in our Australian Taxation Dept in 1986. Got a payout in 89 so decided to have a holiday went across country to Perth WA. A bit l8ke going from Georgia to LA. Bought a block now land not far from the beach for $20K that was the start of all wrong decisions. Should have stayed on the east coast but then we wouldn't have had our daughters if we hadn't of moved there in 1990. Wife had trouble finding work, didn't drive. I work 100 kms from home so drove 2 - 3 hrs each day 5 days a week. They also didn't like a blowin from the East, taking one of the jobs someone had been acting in. I went from same job and position to same job and position, we paid all costs which back then was $4,500 + then after a few weeks with wifes moaning youngest sister we decided to go and rent. Money we needed to pay a mortgage still on a house in Sydney out of what I had left. Move on to 1996 I decided to go back to Nursing in operating theatres and bad situation. Agrivated my back helping to save someone's life post operation. Tried for 3 yrs to return to work. Being shunted around to stupid jobs. I gave up and resigned. Next biggest mistake. Since 2005 been on Disability Pension for most of that time, only $100 a week up to 5 yrs ago, I separated from my whole family. Life deals us curves and there are supposed to be reasons. I know some, 2 daughters was why we moved to Perth. The rest I have no idea. I'm 70 now, just 2 days ago. Starting to feel it. Again hope your wife's mother does well. Have a good safe Xmas and hope the New Year is better for us all.
