Bonus Video: The Short Cut

Friends:

In the recent discussion thread where I asked you to suggest video topics, several of you mentioned that you're interested in my #shorts content, but you don't like shorts. (I sympathize.) A few people wanted to see a bunch of shorts edited together in a "standard" video format.

What a great idea!

Introducing the Short-Cut: all of my February shorts in a single video for your viewing pleasure. This might be a Patron-only thing, or we might put it up on the public channel. I'm not sure yet.

Between winter break and covid, we've made fewer videos than usual this year and we really wanted to do a little something extra. Since you all suggested it, you should get it.

And I've been reading that thread with great interest. You can count on more videos directly from your suggestions. Lots of people want more Furniture Forensics and I'm hot on the trail of a fascinating old piece. The video will be done in a few weeks.

Thanks for the excellent idea!

Definitely keep your eyes open. I lived in Wareham, Mass growing up. I wish I had nails now. Thanks Rex

Cool

Conner Grant

thank you!

Rex Krueger

I'm afraid that they're shot in vertical, so there's no way to make them horizontal. I shoot them on my phone to make it quick and easy. If I shot them horizontal, we would waste a bunch of time cropping each clip and we'd lose resolution. I also dislike the vertical format.

Rex Krueger

I'm so glad it worked for you! Lots of people seem to agree.

Rex Krueger

I know how you feel. We just might keep doing this.

Rex Krueger

I'm glad you liked it, and sure, grind down that bit instead. Just as good.

Rex Krueger

Thanks! I think tips is the place for me to use shorts.

Rex Krueger

They couldn't be easier to make and I use it every day.

Rex Krueger

I would love to. Woodturning is kind of its own little world and I need to get back into it to make more videos. I hope I can.

Rex Krueger

We can only do that if we find a way to auto-generate it. There are over 20 individual videos here and that's a lot to put on Nate. But there might be a simple solution we can use. We'll look!

Rex Krueger

Excellent. Many of us find shorts annoying for one reason or another.

Rex Krueger

We might be able to do that!

Rex Krueger

Loved it!

WD-40 was not intended to be a lubricant. It was created during the war to dry electrical components. Oil repels water. Use Three-in-One oil like Rex suggested. It has been around forever, it’s a high quality oil and best of all you can get in small quantities. It’s the same type of oil used on sewing machines. I have a can of the stuff that I bought more than five years ago. At the rate I use it, it’ll last another five years.

Richard C von Brecht

I wonder if you could use WD-40 to clean & lubricate any saw blade?

William Tickle

I seem to be in the minority here, but I really don't like the vertical format, so I don't watch the shorts. I hope to see them in the horizontal format. And the Furniture Forensics are great!

DALE PATTON

That was great Rex. I don't always see the shorts on YT so this works perfectly to make sure I don't miss any,. Have a great weekend.

Matt Evans-Koch

Thanks, Rex. This would be an awesome monthly thing for the Patreons (or the general public) to post. No way I am keeping track of all the shorts on the youtube page.

Wow, eleven plus minutes of cool tips! Possibly the most useful was how to get damaged Phillips screws out. (I might be guilty of over zealous use of cordless screwdrivers) Instead of grinding down a cheap Phillips screwdriver how about grinding down that Phillips hex bit you just ruined due to being over zealous with it. Stick that in the manual bit driver that you should be using instead.

While I have been enjoying the longer videos recently these shorts had a lot of great tips! Thanks!

Gerald Eddy

This is a great format, thanks! I need to get myself one of those rags in a can.

Max Goldstein

Not related, but I think wood turning should make a comeback on the public channel.

Conner Grant

Nice idea. Could you do a timestamp/chapter legend in the YouTube description? Doing so would let me easily check if I missed any shorts this month.

Bradley Barth

I like some of your shorts a lot, but find the way that they start and stop on my mobile when I scroll off/on annoying, This is a fun setup.

Madeleine Yeh

interesting format. a bunch of shorts, great use for the once a month you need to take off to do business paperwork. This should be the regular end of month video.
