Our Newest Tool! The No-Mod Planing Stop

Friends:

It's new tool day!  No, we didn't buy a new tool; we invented one. The Compass Rose No-Mod Planing Stop is a drop-in addition to your existing workbench. Just pop it in your vise, tighten, and you're ready to go.

We know lots of people who want a planing stop, but don't want to make changes to their workbench. Now there's a stop that you can use without changing anything. It's a neat little device and we're happy to offer it to Patrons first

Right now, you're the only ones who can see the new tool and you get an exclusive, Patron-only discount until Wednesday.

Check it out right here: https://www.compassrosetools.com/store/p/no-mod-planing-stop

Could this be the holiday gift you're looking for? Maybe.

Thanks so much for helping to make this stuff possible!

Happy Saturday!

Our Newest Tool! The No-Mod Planing Stop

Comments

Okay, so I am TRYING to add a wooden block to the planing stop, but I’ll be darned if I can drill through this steel! Perhaps my cryo-bits are dull, or perhaps I need something harder? Do I need carbide to drill it?

Mark H

Going to add a wooden block because my vise doesn’t close all the way on the end. Incidentally, I also just ordered the wrack stop

Mark H

bought it!

Koen de Boeve

There are dozens of us!

Damian Scisci

Got mine yesterday. Wow! It works brilliantly! I'm very happy that you got a patent for this.

OrionBeltz

Great idea! Seems so obvious; I wonder why no-one thought of it before? I just ordered it, even though I haven’t built my workbench yet (other things need to get done first).

Bob Berger

Mine arrived yesterday and I’ve already used it. Works great! Thanks Rex!

Ron Paro

Hey Rex. I see you're still not shipping to New Zealand. Is that likely to be an option soon?

Aaron I Officer

I'd love too get this. However the shipping is almost the cost of the tool itself. So unfortunately it's a big no for me.

Colin Richardson

No left hand version?

Mitchell Kirk

I think I ordered your new planing stop, but did not get a confirmation of my order. How can I check that. The offer expires today, 12/13, right?

Bill Dupee

Great Idea for a plane stop. Dose this work for left handed people using the right side of the bench with there vise???

Dan Delie

I love this idea! Congratulations on your patent submission. Very exciting!

Mickey Wynn

Perhaps "teeth parallel to the vise" would have been more descriptive, or "end-vise stop". Or a planning stop that works in a side-vise and end-vise. The more I think about it, the bigger it gets so I'll stop now!

DALE PATTON

Actually i found a solution already. I have some relatives living in Finland to whose address i can order and they can send it forward to me. So, my ordered No-Mod planing stop is on it`s way to me already. Thanks for the reply and for the tool! Keep up the good work.

Tanel Mõttus

I'm so sorry. Our shipper has had problems with Estonian post and won't ship there any more. It's totally out of my hands. Again, I'm sorry about that.

Rex Krueger

We want to do a lefty version, but economy of scale is a challenge. We got a good price on these by ordering hundreds. If we made a lefty version, we'll only be able to sell a few dozen and the price of those will be very high. It's a problem. But we are thinking about some kind of stop that works for both. Something reversible? We'll keep you posted!

Rex Krueger

Thank you! We certainly put in the time.

Rex Krueger

I'm so glad you think so! We're trying to make good tools.

Rex Krueger

Well, the new model is priced to move!

Rex Krueger

It's a big hunk of steel. Should last a loooooong time!

Rex Krueger

You seem like the ideal customer! Hope you like it!

Rex Krueger

Our original stop will fit on that temporary bench...

Rex Krueger

Hmmm. This on IS shaped like an L, so I'm not sure what you mean. But an end-vise stop is a possibility.

Rex Krueger

That's exactly what we were hoping people would say! We try to solve problems.

Rex Krueger

That's so appreciated! Thanks for your support!

Rex Krueger

Thank you! I hope you love using it.

Put the original stop on your other bench....the one you haven't built yet!

Rex Krueger

I hope you get years of use out of it!

Rex Krueger

It's our pleasure! We hope you like it!

Rex Krueger

I'm glad you think so, although the plan you mentioned with the wood block; that would have worked pretty well, too.

Rex Krueger

I've been really happy with it in testing, but the REAL test start when you all begin using it.

Rex Krueger

Thank you! We can't wait to hear how you like it!

Rex Krueger

Great tool, great work. It solves the problem on being fixed and on the way on my benchtop. I was really waiting something like that to come out. Too bad that Estonia is`nt in the shipping destination.

Tanel Mõttus

Will there ever be a left-handed version?

David K Messmer

Your attention to the details is outstanding. Simple in concept but sophisticated in execution. Your pride in it really comes through.

Richard C von Brecht

This is so super awesome! I love it! I'm very excited for you and your new unique tool! Great job, Rex!

Jennessa Lynam

Nice job!! Really like the no-mod design. I purchased the first stop but I would have definitely preferred the new model.

joseph severson

I think this is a great idea! Ever thought of making a Left-handed version, that could go in a vise on the other end of the bench?

Robert

Yep fair points I was planing on getting another plane stop as you say you can never have too many! I really liked the idea behind this but the the original is fine and I’ve never had an issue fixing it to work bench

John Byron Coombes

Looks good. I like the substantiality of the production model as compared to the prototype.

Madeleine Yeh

This is perfect for me. I keep needing one, but did not want to mount it to the workbench. Order is in and I am looking forward to using it.

Rick Prosser

Very cool! Too bad my bench is still laminated 2x4s on saw horses. No vice or legs yet. Keep breaking something getting to that point.

Bradley Barth

Cool, I have a suggestion for this line of planning stops. Make one that is "L" shaped for those of us with a vise on the end of our bench.

DALE PATTON

This looks like a winner. I never installed the original Compass Rose planing stop because I couldn't have a permanent piece of metal fixed to the top of my bench...I still hadn't solved the planing stop problem...this looks about right!

John Griswold

Wow!!! YES!!!! Bought!

Meryl Logue

I was going to just go ahead and purchase this because you can't have too many planing stops. However, I am gifted with left-handedness and have my vise on the righthand side where it should be. As brilliant as this idea is, and I believe it is brilliant, for us lucky 10% (ish) of the population this just won't work. It's a shame, but from a business point-of-view, I would have done exactly what Rex has done.

Bill Brisky

Congratulations, Rex! Love the idea, so I'll buy one!

John Shufelt

This is a great idea - if you are right handed. Do you plan on coming out with a left-handed bench version?

Kirk von der Heydt

This is awesome. Now I have to figure out what to do with the original planning stop.

Skully Wood and Metal

Just ordered one… thanks Rex!

The Super-wrench Garage

Perfect! Just what I have been wanting. Thanks, Santa!

Robert A Carbo

This is a great idea! I put one on order. I bought the original CR planning stop - but had been a little hesitant to install because i usually mill will power tools and do joinery and touch up with hand tool, so I’m not face planing every day and really didn’t want something attached to the top of the bench. I had been thinking of just attaching the original planing top to a block of wood and clamping it in the end vise when needed; but this is way better

Michael Falbo

Bought it! Been waiting for something like this ever since you made your first stop out of a hinge :-). I think you have a winner! Thanks Rex.

Jeff Griest

Maybe if it's successful Compass Rose would consider a left hand version. Of course you would need a left hand bench, i.e., your vise on the RHS of the bench.

Brian Taylor

I love it so I bought it.

mmgross144

Honestly, I think this is a brilliant idea and exactly what I needed without me knowing it till now! I think this is a great way to get started hand planing.

TroyIgnatius

I like this a lot I have the original plane stop and it’s been a good friend the only snag I see is I’m a leftie so I think I would struggle with this
