Exclusive Video: Table Build-Along Pt. 7

Friends:

Just a short video this week. As we get into the legs, it's worth planning your stock selection a little bit. It's very easy to glue up leg blanks that are too big and then spend a ton of time dimensioning them to the correct size.

In today's video, I go over a bunch of options for getting that leg stock together. A little foresight here will save a bunch of time later.

Next week, we'll saw out the leg pieces.

Bah! Just rip it! ๐Ÿ˜‚ but that's almost certainly just me!

Well, if you like mistakes, wait till you see the next few installments! You won't be disappointed. I'm glad you like the raw feel of this video. We're trying to do something new here.

It's just proportions. Mostly visual, but I could have mentioned that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

You're totally right and i might end up doing exactly that!

It's a perfect use for this design. I would build one if i needed a bed-side table.

Looking forward to building this after I finish my home renovation. Two actually. One for each side of the bed.

Thank you, Rex for the tips. I have found that if you have trouble getting exact dimensions from your stock or you end up with something slightly smaller, make all of the pieces the same dimensions and adjust from there.

Matt Evans-Koch

Thanks Rex. Great tips as usual. What determines the size of the leg blanks? Is it proportion to the overall size of the piece or is there a rule of thumb that people follow?

Dave West

I like the raw quality of this video. Leaving in that error about the desired dimension was genius. It reinforced your views about being pragmatic and the viewer now is completely aware of the desired dimension.
