【重要】FANBOXがAIイラストの投稿を禁止する件について　FANBOX to ban submission of AI illustrations.【Important】

皆様こんにちは。

本日、FANBOXオフィシャルより、「今後当面の間、AI作品の投稿を禁止にする」旨の投稿がなされました。

内容をざっと確認したところ、最近一部のAIユーザーが特定のイラストレーターの作品を模倣して、自分の作品だと主張したりFANBOXで販売するという悪質なケースが増えていたようで、それに対して技術的に対策が追い付かないから当面の間はAIは全部禁止にするよっていうことみたいです。

この記事を書いている時点ではまだ直接ユーザーに通知が来たということもなく、今後新たな規約を作成するという一次通知段階のようなので、まだあと数日間は閲覧が可能なようですが、新しい規約が発効され次第、すでに投稿されているものも自動的に非公開になったり、アカウントが停止されたりするようです。

で、私のほうはどう対応するかと言いますと、

私はもともと3DCG作品を公開するためにこのFANBOXを開設したので、まあ元に戻るだけだなという風に思っています。

AIイラストに関しては、とりあえず公式から非公開にせよという通知が来たり強制停止されるまでは公開したままにしておきます。お気に入りのAI作品がある場合は、非公開にされる前に各自早めにダウンロードしておいてください。

ただ今回のPixivの対応を見て、Pixiv並びにFanbox運営に対して不満がないわけではありません。

・FANBOXは投稿、閲覧、に関する機能がほとんど更新・強化されず、投稿者、閲覧者どちらの立場から見ても単純に使いにくい。

私はFANBOXを開設してからもう3年経ちますが、全く機能的に進化していません。

みなさまも使いにくいと思いませんか？

・PixivではAIイラストは規制しないのにFANBOXでは規制するという、ダブルスタンダードである

通常、Pixivで投稿 → ファンを集める → FANBOXへ誘導　という流れが当たり前なのでそもそも源流から禁止するのが先だと私は思う。

そういう意味で、私はPixiv側にAIイラストを一切投稿せず、控えていました。私はあくまで既に私のことを知っている方へ向けてあくまでプライベートサイトという位置づけで、AIイラスト投稿をFANBOXとTwitterに限定して投稿していました。

・同社が発売している「Clip Studio」というイラスト作成ソフトがありますが、一度はAIによる生成機能を搭載すると発表しながら、一部ユーザーからの反対意見をうけてAI機能の搭載を撤回したことがあるし、また、上記の理由から、PixivはAIに対してだけじゃなく、そもそも会社として考えがはっきりせず、その場の雰囲気や意見になびく傾向があって、その場しのぎの決定が多いように感じる。

・AIが禁止されたとしても3DCGだけ投稿していればいいということにはなるのですが、「AI作成の背景を使った作品まで禁止される」というのはきついです。

今のところ「AIを使用したらアウト」なので一部だけAIを使用しても投稿禁止という事になります。

背景までフル3DCGにするのは作業的にも資金的にも結構きついんです。

私はAIの背景を使って3D漫画制作に取り掛かる予定だったので、そこも重大な懸念点になります。

以上のことから、FANBOXは閉めてPATREONに移転することも検討していきます。

3DCGのみのサイトとしてFANBOXの利用を続けるかどうかはちょっとわかりません。

最後に、私のAIに関する考え方を追記しておきます。

私は、AI技術だろうがなんだろうが、結局は「使う人次第」だと思っています。

AI技術が発展するのは時代の流れでもう止められないし、絵師が食っていけなくなるとか、一部の人の仕事が奪われるとか言いますが、そんなことはイラストレーターに限らずいろんな仕事で今までも起こってきたことです。

パクリやトレースなんてもってのほかだという事も昔から変わりません。

紙からデジタルへ、そしてAIへと道具が変わっただけの話で、紙とペンなら他人の作品をトレースしてもいい　なんてことはありません。

私はAIイラストが普及してからむしろクリエイターの数自体は急激に増えたと感じています。Twitterをやっている人ならわかると思います。

結局のところ、道具が便利になれば手軽さが増し、ユーザーが増える。

そうやって創作文化は発展してきたんだと思います。

私自身も、それまではものすごくハードルが高かった3DCGという世界に、DazStudioというハードルをものすごく下げてくれるツールが存在したからこそ、創作活動にチャレンジすることができた一人です。

AIの急激な進化と現状の展開に戸惑う人がいるのは理解できますが、ChatGPTは使うけどAIイラストは敵視する　というスタンスは完全に矛盾していて、結局はただの感情論だと私は思います。

適当にプロンプトを書いてあとは勝手にAIが考えて作ってくれる、というレトルト食品のような作品は、現在の段階でもすでに「つまらない作品」と認識されつつあります。少なくとも私はそう思いますので、結局は

「手軽にやっている人が活躍できるのは今だけ」でそれにひと手間ふた手間と苦労した人が評価されるというのは今後も変わらないと思います。

Today, an announcement was made on FANBOX Official stating that "AI artwork posts will be temporarily prohibited." After a quick review of the content, it appears that there has been an increase in malicious cases where some AI users have been imitating the works of specific illustrators, claiming them as their own, and even selling them on FANBOX. Due to the technical challenges of addressing these issues, they have decided to temporarily ban all AI artwork.

As of now, no direct notifications have been sent to users, and it seems to be in the initial stage of announcing the creation of new regulations. Therefore, it appears that access will still be possible for a few more days. However, once the new regulations come into effect, any existing AI artwork may automatically become unpublished, and accounts may be suspended.

As for my own response, I initially opened this FANBOX account to share my 3DCG artworks, so I see this as simply returning to the original purpose. Regarding AI illustrations, I will keep them public until an official notice to make them private or cease their publication is received. If you have any favorite AI artworks, I recommend downloading them before they are made private.

However, I am dissatisfied with Pixiv and the Fanbox management after seeing Pixiv's response this time.

・FANBOX has seen minimal updates and enhancements in terms of posting and browsing functionalities, making it difficult for both creators and users. Despite using FANBOX for three years now, I haven't seen any significant improvements in its functionality. Do you also find it challenging to use?

・It seems like a double standard that Pixiv allows AI illustrations while FANBOX restricts them. Typically, the flow goes from posting on Pixiv, gathering fans, and then explaining the content on FANBOX. Therefore, I believe it would make more sense to prohibit AI illustrations from the source rather than restricting them later. Due to this reason, I have refrained from posting any AI illustrations on Pixiv. Instead, I limited my AI artwork to FANBOX and Twitter to cater specifically to those who appreciate AI illustrations and to ensure that supporters are not bored, as my intention was to showcase the advancements in AI technology.

・The company also produces an illustration software called "Clip Studio," which had initially announced incorporating AI-generated features but later retracted the implementation due to opposition from some users. Moreover, based on the reasons mentioned above, I feel that Pixiv, as a company, lacks a clear standpoint and tends to sway with the prevailing atmosphere and opinions, often making impromptu decisions.

Due to the aforementioned reasons, I'm uncertain whether I will continue using FANBOX in the future. Even if AI is prohibited, I could still upload 3DCG content; however, it becomes difficult when the prohibition extends to using AI-generated backgrounds in artworks. Currently, the policy is "no AI usage," so even using AI partially would result in a posting restriction. It would be quite demanding, both in terms of workflow and finances, to transition to full 3DCG backgrounds. I had plans to create 3D manga utilizing AI backgrounds, so this becomes a significant concern as well. Considering these factors, I am contemplating closing my FANBOX account and potentially moving to Patreon.

Lastly, I would like to add my thoughts on AI.

I believe that whether it's AI technology or any other tool, it ultimately depends on "how it's used." The advancement of AI technology is an unstoppable trend, and arguments that artists will struggle to make a living or that some people's jobs will be taken away have been raised, but such things have occurred in various professions, not limited to illustrators. The condemnation of plagiarism and tracing remains unchanged throughout history. It's merely a shift from paper to digital and now to AI as tools. If we consider paper and pen, tracing someone else's work is unacceptable.

From my perspective, I feel that the number of creators has actually increased significantly since the popularity of AI illustrations, as anyone who uses Twitter would understand. In the end, when tools become more convenient, accessibility increases, and the user base expands. It is through this process that creative culture has evolved.

Personally, I was able to embark on creative endeavors in the realm of 3DCG, which had previously been daunting, thanks to tools like Daz Studio that significantly lowered the barrier.

I can understand that people may be bewildered by the rapid evolution of AI and the current developments. However, I believe that the stance of using ChatGPT but vilifying AI illustrations is entirely contradictory and simply based on emotional reasoning. Works that rely on AI to generate content based on vague prompts, like prepackaged meals, are already being recognized as "uninteresting works" at this stage. At least, that's how I see it. Ultimately, I think that the idea of "those who effortlessly create will shine for now, while those who put in extra effort and struggle will be appreciated" will remain unchanged in the future.
