Makes it so much more tragic when you realize that he still had a piece of himself left in him, through his love for his sister.... but he knew he could not overcome the power and temptation of the demon sword, so he willingly gave in and went to his death, so that his sister wouldn't suffer having a murderer for a brother. He didn't want to risk her life by being around her more than he already was. It was clear, when we saw the last bit of humanity he had left on his face when he kneeled down to look at his sister one last time. And then as he lay dead, he looked so damn peaceful, and she saw that.
Really sucks too that the first thing Hyakkimaru hears is her crying and the rain. So many feels in this episode.
