MAC DS9

Comments

I’m late to the party but man…..this is the video I wanted to see. I have been wanting to get into the 2011 game but can’t fathom spending 3k on one. So I ordered a Mac 9 ds two days ago to start out. After the reviews I’ve seen, tinkering with the sear spring for trigger weight and 12# recoil spring, it’ll make a world of difference. Thank you for your content. I came to Patreon just for your reviews!

Matt

Revisiting this review because I just picked up the Tisas 1911 Carry DS for $750. Cheaper version of this gun without the bull barrel essentially (also non-adjustable trigger, no magwell, no optic plate system; its direct milled for Holosun K, and a 3 slot pic rail that wont accept any full size lights which is BS). Pretty solid for what I paid, and a great place to start for upgrades. The internals on both the Tisas and MAC9 DS are billet. They are finished with cerakote which I dont like, but I'll still happily take billet parts at the price point of either of these guns. Both guns are rated for +P ammo and come with a 16# recoil spring. I found this information here: https://tisasusa.com/faq/ For my normal 115 or 124gn range ammo the Tisas likes a 14# spring. I will be porting the pisol soon and will likely drop the spring to 13 or 12 #. I did a full tune up, installed some new parts, and adjusted the trigger to my liking and it performs amazing for $950 total. These Tisas guns are a great value.

Well it doesn't help 2011 is trademarked so basically everyone has to say double stack by default how

mike

Ya I click the v on the right. It moves over to chrome then I typically stream it to my TV. But can do phone full screen from there

mike

Would you consider evaluating the kimber KDS9C and its optics system?

Tim Helton

It was solid. Nothing to complain about. My particular model was discontinued and I was at a point to either send it in for a Hayes Custom tuneup or switch up to something with more common magazines. When I saw the Night Stalker variant of the Tisas DS in my local shop, I decided that was my sign to trade up.

Brad Morin

How was your experience with the RIA?

Joe

If anyone is lookin at this gun, Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore has them right now for 879 beans.

Nate Rivera

I want to see Chambers' inspection and see what they say.

I've handled one of these that somebody requested that I order. Seemed pretty well made. The magazines appear to be Checkmate brand. Checkmate also does mags for Staccato and Triarc. Exact same markings (with no branding). The one I handled also had a fairly heavy trigger and recoil spring.

Brad Reinhard

That’s certainly possible. I was looking at the grip safety and extractor as mim, but if they say they aren’t, then I’m wrong on that account.

Aaron Cowan

I picked up one of these a few weeks ago and I'm about 700 rounds in. Recoil spring is stout, but I haven't had any lock back issues with various 115 and 124g. It's a soft shooter and has been flawless so far. MAC does claim that it has all forged internals with no MIM.

shocklsg

Looks pretty solid for the price point

Mrgunsngear

Almost every single gun has MIM parts now. I would be very surprised if this didn’t have a few. Safeties, extractors, firing pins are commonly MIM. It can produce bad brittle parts if done poorly, but it can also produce very strong parts if done correctly, likely better than billet due to grain structure, and also because you can get superior materials that would be cost prohibitive to machine for most parts, like S7.

I just traded an old RIA double stack 1911 for one of the Tisas versions of these in the Night Stalker variation. I went for this one because I had read/seen/heard that the company insisted that there were no MiM parts in these guns which put it above the Girsan offering and the Prodigy for me. I haven't been able to get time behind it yet but thanks for the heads up regarding a potential lock back issue. Something to pay attention to when I get started breaking it in.

Brad Morin

I have been wanting to try out a 2011, but they've been cost prohibitive...this one makes it very tempting to get on with it.

Aaron

I thought Tissas/MAC claimed no MiM. You stated there was MiM parts, which parts are MiM?

Aaron Britt

Why does Patreon’s mobile app video player suck SO much and why can’t Vimeo play full screen in landscape 😭

Jonathan Scott

I currently have one, it is very similar setup, X300u and Holosun EPS. I am currently 600rds in and i do not have that same locking back issue, i feel my slide and frame have more play i feel but it has been very solid and i only shoot 124 norma.

Bill

Wish it wasn't the same model name as the pistol from Masterpiece Arms.

Charles Soukup

This might be the one I get my hands on as a project gun because finally one of the budget double stack 1911s has a full sized RMR footprint. Last time I looked into them they were sold out every where I found them, I think they're really going to be hard to get ahold of after people see this video lol. Initial price of around 1k, change the spring, and de-mim it you're probably looking at Poor-digy prices. The only advantage I see the Poor-digy having over this is the AOS system for people that want to run non RMR footprint optics. If it becomes popular enough though I can see someone making aftermarket plates for it.
