I was sitting in the hospital.
Waiting for my mother to be discharged.
(Urinary tract infection. I don't blog about everything. It becomes overwhelming pretty quickly.)
For eight hours.
So I found a table in the cafeteria next to an outlet -- a very cold table -- and tried to work with the tablet's keyboard. Let's just say typos abounded. Dear sweet pony gawds, did I have typos. There's a real argument that part of the story's format was a deliberate attempt to press as few punctuation and HTML keys as possible. Also, if you let the same mistake sit twice, the tablet assumes that's the way you meant to spell the word. Forever.
The base idea for the story itself can be found in a blog post. (The art attached to this one apparently gets randomly grabbed from the Similar column.) In that sense, I've been letting this one back-burner for a while until simmer was reached. But in another, I was stuck waiting for eight hours and there was free wifi and an outlet. I needed something to think about which wasn't the discharge, and so phone interruptions also abounded.
It also marks the first time I've ever written in public.
No, no one looked.
Yes, it still felt weird.
