This was originally meant to be one scene.
I wish I was joking. I wrote out a list of notes for everything I wanted to go in the chapter, and this was how it was going to open. But this is the first time we've seen Cerea have any degree of true privacy in several chapters. She was seeing a huge number of things for the first time. (Seriously. This was the first glimpse she's really had of the palace from the outside, and that's just the start of the list.) She was, for the most part, alone with her thoughts, and events have given her a lot to think about.
So the scene stretched out: not just the visit, but everything leading up to it. A quiet trot on a chill autumn morning, as she tried to work a few things out. And by the time she'd seen what she'd been sent for, taking new thoughts back with her... I was at a natural chapter break point: the sort of thing where it's a stylistic mistake to let the mood change with a mere {hr}. And I'd also hit 6100 words, so -- instead of End Scene, it was End Chapter.
Which means she's probably heading for a double-update month.
But I also have to put up a new chapter on Anchor Foal.
So... that's the... plan? Semi-schedule? Subject of the universe's latest laughing fit?
But for now, it's a girl and her thoughts, in the palace gardens with the dead.
We'll see how that goes over.
