This 7,000-word chapter is about moving the story forward into the next stage. We're prepping our main character for her coming-out party: legally, socially, and fashionably. Guess which one of those is going to be the problem.
...well, the current problem. Most of the rest will begin to crash in soon. Because one of the things about having a 'verse of sorts? Is that there's a degree of cast already in place, waiting for use. In this chapter-case, Cerea is being treated as a new immigrant, and we already have an Immigration Department. Problem solved in advance.
We also have some other factors in play.
The rumor mill has been churning. Imagine what's going to happen when it gets ahold of actual grist.
(I'm hoping to put a new chapter on Duet next. And I'm glad I got The Small Hours up before this posting, as it let me use a what's now a pre-established fact for the opening dream.)
