I had initially thought this segment would conclude on a different story beat. But this was Applejack's chapter, and one where she did a lot of talking. A mare determined to speak will say what she truly wishes to -- and after what came out, I wound up feeling that for the sake of story pacing, the best place to end was right after she finished.
Sometimes, the break between chapters represents the chance for writer, readers, and characters to take a breath and think about what just happened. Switching directly to another scene felt like it was insulting her -- and so Applejack became the one to close out the month. She earned that. And while the character may not get a true chance to exhale, the writer might need one.
5800 words, where the verbal explosion also represents watching the fizzle move along the fuse.
