This is the first of what I'm hoping will be two chapters for the month, with both sharing the same calendar square and physical setting. The last pairing was Fleur and Fluttershy out and about in Canterlot, getting some idea for that side of the equation. Nightmare Night is for putting the mares among the populace in Ponyville and in both cases, it's about laying down some of the groundwork for the next stage of the story.
After the second NN chapter is posted, Anchor Foal will begin to shift into its next phase. As Fleur notes, we're at a seasonal tipping point: the moment when autumn begins to unstoppably tilt towards winter -- but before that can happen, there's a holiday to get through. So this 5600-word chapter is for the mares out together, the next is their holiday interactions with Ponyville's residents (and two who just happen to be dropping by that night so that one can check on his friend), and after that --
-- this story has a plan. (I still have trouble convincing a few people of that with any story.) So after the next chapter, it'll be time for another part of it.
Sometimes it's just that simple.
The execution is where it gets complicated.
