This one turned out to be a little weird. I've been working my way up to the next big scene: the press conference. And after some consideration, I realized that said conference was going to wind up as its own chapter. (The title for that one will be Miscreated, and it should hopefully be up before the end of the week.) But there was prep work to be done before the conference, and once the pacing settled down, I had two relatively (for me) short chapters. There was a pair of natural breaks, and so the story resolved itself along those lines.
Between them, it's roughly 6500 words, and it gives those who've been waiting for this story the assurance that it hasn't stalled out. But there was fallout to deal with between the last events and the grand gathering, that turned out to need some room of its own, and the weird thing? It could have gone through a lot of additional, scattershot detail. It might have been possible to do a series of quick glimpses across the continent: reactions to the first burst of news.
But I ultimately thought it was best to initially keep that as distant worries (and soon, not-so-distant crowd noise). This was about getting Cerea to the door which leads to the Lunar Courtyard -- and shortly after that next chapter starts, she'll step through into the moonlight. Out in public at long last, standing before the assembled press.
I expect it to be a very informative night.
For starters, she's about to learn that ponies can vomit.
