A barbarian embodies many things: strength, resilience, ferocity. And there exists no natural force that exemplifies those very same traits like the mighty seas. Gentle and serene one moment, tumultuous and devastating the very next. Barbarians who follow the Path of the Torrent draw inspiration from the ocean; flowing freely through the battlefield before crashing upon it suddenly and violently like a thundering wave, bowling their enemies over. To fight against the crashing waters is an exercise in futility. No one can resist the tide. All who stand against you will be washed away.
3rd level Path of the Torrent feature
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you become as flexible in combat as the currents themselves, granting the following features:
Torrent DC. You gain a Torrent DC used for certain features. The DC is calculated as: 8 + your Strength modifier + your Rage damage bonus.
Natural Swimmer. You gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed.
Fluid Movement. While you are not raging, your swim speed is doubled. You can move through a hostile creature’s space even if it is not at least 2 sizes larger or smaller than you.
Undertow. While you are raging, the first creature you hit on each of your turns with a melee attack must make a Strength saving throw against your Torrent DC or be knocked prone.
3rd level Path of the Torrent feature
At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Navigator’s Tools. In addition, you gain proficiency with one of the following skills of your choice: Stealth, Intimidation, Nature, Survival.
6th level Path of the Torrent feature
Your ability to tame and navigate the violent currents becomes manifest. While you are not raging, you can stand up from prone by spending 5 feet of movement, rather than half your speed. Additionally, you can expend a use of your rage to automatically escape from non magical restraints, such as manacles or a creature that has you grappled.
While raging, you can use one of the following features as an action. For your Overflow Damage for the following features, roll a number of d12s equal to your Rage Damage bonus, and add them together. The damage is Cold damage. You can use two of the following features per rage.
Riptide. You launch yourself at an unoccupied space you can see within a number of feet equal to 10 times your Rage damage bonus as a spectral wave of water appears beneath you. That space must be on the ground or on a floor. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks. When you finish moving, each creature within 10 feet of the space you land in must make a Strength saving throw against your Torrent DC. On a failed saving throw, a creature takes your Overflow Damage and is knocked prone. A creature that succeeds on its saving throw takes half as much damage and suffers no additional effects.
Maelstrom. You spin in place, creating a whirlpool of spectral water. Each creature within a number of feet of you equal to 5 times your Rage damage bonus must make a Strength saving throw against your Torrent DC. On a failed saving throw, a creature takes your Overflow Damage and is pulled to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you. A creature that succeeds on its saving throw takes half as much damage and suffers no additional effects.
Wavecrash. You produce a spectral cone of crashing water that whose length is equal to 10 times your Rage damage bonus originates from you. Each creature in the area must make a Strength saving throw against your Torrent DC. On a failed saving throw, a creature takes your Overflow Damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. A creature that succeeds on its saving throw takes half as much damage and suffers no additional effects.
10th level Path of the Torrent feature
While you are not raging, you gain a bonus to Dexterity checks and saving throws equal to your Rage damage bonus.
Additionally, when you use one of your Overflow features, creatures of your choice are immune to the effects.
14th level Path of the Torrent feature
When you rage, you can choose to become an avatar of the raging seas. For the duration of your rage, you gain the following additional benefits:
You can walk on and breathe in water.
You can use any of your Overflow features at will.
You cannot be grappled or restrained, and you ignore difficult terrain.
Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
