Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)
A candlestick found within an old manor, inhabited by a hungry spirit.
This candlestick's magic is activated when the candle is lit, which requires an action. You can have this candle burn for 1 hour, all at once or in several shorter uses, each one using a minimum of 1 minute from the duration. The flame cannot be extinguished by normal means, such as water or strong winds. You can snuff it out early for use at a later time as a bonus action. Deduct the time it burned in increments of 1 minute from the candle's total burn time.
When you finish a long rest, you can expend a hit die to have this candle replenish itself.
Revealing Light. When lit, the candle sheds bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. Creatures and objects within the bright light can't benefit from being invisible, and you can see creatures in the ethereal plane within that radius.
Flash Burn. As an action, you can cause this candle to burn more intensely, warding off the terrors of the dark. This instantly consumes 15 minutes of the remaining time from the candle. If the candle has less than 15 minutes of time remaining, you can spend the remaining time as though it were a full minute, immediately extinguishing the light.
Frightened creatures of your choice within the bright light of this candle can immediately make a saving throw against the frightened condition.
Curse. If the candle fully burns out, its curse extends to you. While this candlestick has burned out, you cannot end your attunement to it. You are considered blinded outside of a radius of 30 feet and ethereal creatures become drawn to you, targeting you in battle. You remain cursed this way until you replenish the candle, but doing so requires three of your hit dice instead of one.
‘Twas once a young man, afraid of the dark
Gripped with such fear, from home he dared not stray
One morn, a merchant, with a smile so stark
A simple gift, to keep shadows at bay
Finally, sweet relief the young man sighed
But by the ‘morrow, was found pale and dried
