There once was a man named Jack Hawthorn who lived in the woods with his family, running a lumber mill nearby. One day, bandits arrived at their home seeking to steal from Jack's coffers, but found the inhabitants on their evening break. Jack fought to protect his family, taking up his trusted axe, but every one of them were cut down by the ruthless thieves. The bandits buried the bodies in the woods, hoping the nearby town would think the home had simply been abandoned. As roots grew around Jack’s body, the anger in his soul festered. His lifeless corpse dug its way out of its shallow grave, and his spirit swore vengeance against all trespassers who found their way into the dark woods he once, and still, calls home.
