Weapon (shield with battleaxe / greatsword), rare

A weapon of station in the Healing Church wielded by its holy warriors in the earliest hunts. This shield and battleaxe combine to form an exceptionally broad greatsword.

Trick Weapon. While wielding both the battleaxe and shield that make up this item, you can slot the battleaxe into the shield as a Bonus Action transforming it into a greatsword or vice versa. You can only transform it back into a battleaxe and shield as long as you would have hands free to do so. The DCs for any Saving Throws using this weapon’s properties equal 8 plus the ability modifier used to make an attack with it plus your Proficiency Bonus. You can use the Transform Attacks of trick weapons a total number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus before finishing a short rest.

Whirling Cleave (Transform Attack). After you make an attack with this weapon in its battleaxe form while also wielding its shield form, you can use a Bonus Action to transform it into its greatsword form and make an attack with it. If the attack roll would also hit another creature within 5 feet of the target, you can deal damage to that creature as well.

Advancing Aegis (Transform Attack). After you make an attack with this item in its greatsword form, you can use a Bonus Action to transform it into its shield and battleaxe form. You can then attempt to shove a creature within 5 feet of you with the shield, adding its AC bonus to the DC.

Decisive Judgement (Transform Attack). When a creature attacks you while you are wielding this item as a shield, you can use your reaction to gain a +5 bonus to your AC against the triggering attack. If the attack becomes a miss and you are also wielding the battleaxe form of this item, you can immediately combine them into its greatsword form and make an attack against the creature that attacked you. On a hit, the creature must make a Strength Saving Throw or be knocked prone.

The Healing Church, born of the old blood found deep below the city, rose to great prominence by utilizing their blood ministration to heal the sick. When the Scourge of Beasts began, the church created an army of holy knights to fend off the vicious hordes. To the surviving citizens they were seen as heroes, but the ruthlessness of the church was unmatched. The people did not know the blood their saviors brought was to blame for the scourge, nor did they witness the innocents they slaughtered looking to preemptively prevent its spread. In the end, they abandoned their shields, embracing ruthlessness over protection.
