Erroneous Shard (Alpha 0.1)

Erroneous Shards are strange elementals that are found deep within subterranean caverns. Appearing in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, Erroneous Shards appear as sizable crystalline forms indistinguishable from valuable gems, ranging from sapphires and rubies, to Topaz, and even Diamonds. Completely immobile, if left untouched, an Erroneous Shard is quite harmless, capable of remaining dormant for hundreds of years. However, they can become quite problematic for adventurers if touched directly.

Upon making contact with a creature's hand, the crystalline mass of the creatures alter their form in a manner akin to liquid before bonding to a creature's nails. Once attached, they take on an appearance akin to long, glistening false nails, ranging from several inches to even up to a foot long based on the size of the shard.

Though they can't speak or move without a creature to bond to, once attached to a creature's nails, these Shards can telepathically influence a creature's mood and feelings. As an Erroneous Shard simply wants to keep itself safe and out of harm's way for as long as possible, they are known to make a host incredibly self conscious about using their hands at risk of potentially breaking a nail, mitigating their chance of sustaining damage.

If an Erroneous Shard attaches itself to a creature, though it may be quite a hinderance at first, the removal process is quite easy. These Shards can not only be removed via a Ritual of Purification, but they can also be removed through the use of aquatic spells or by simply submerging the attached Shard within mundane salt water for up to a minute.

Though their durability can make them incredibly tenacious, it is said that some skilled Oni smiths are able to bonding these shards to weapons. If an Erroneous Shard is brought to one of these smiths, it can be said that the weapons they can be used to form retain the sentient nature of shard, allowing it to communicate emotions to the wielder.

Many high ranking demons are notably able to completely ignore the nail-binding nature of these Shards, allowing them to be handled with ease. Such demons will sometime fashion seemingly valuable jewelry to gift to unknowing mortals, leaving them with inconvenient gem-like nails.

Resistances And Weaknesses: The Erroneous Shard is immune to Earth and Poison Damage. Additionally, it is vulnerable to Water damage.

Inventory:
None

False Gemstone: The Erroneous Shard is completely indistinguishable from a normal gemstone. If a spell detects the presence of either life or magic, an Erroneous Shard's true nature is revealed.

Nail Bonding: If the Erroneous Shard is touched by a creature's hand, it immediately attempts to bond itself to that creature. A creature can attempt to use quick reflexes to avoid this bond by rolling 1d8 and adding their Speed. If the total result is 15 or less, the Erroneous Shard bonds itself to that creature. When bonded to a creature, the Erroneous Shard is capable of communicating with the creature via expressing rudimentary emotions such as happiness, sadness, and anger. Additionally, while the Erroneous Shard is bonded to a creature, they gain the following personality trait due to the Shard's influence on the creature's consciousness: Nail Conscious: You are incredibly worried about breaking any of your beautiful nails. You are incapable of  making unarmed melee attacks. Additionally, whenever you make an attack with a weapon that you are holding, roll 1d6. On a roll of a 1, you can't bring yourself to use your hands in such a physical manner, possibly putting your nails in harm's way. If a 1 is rolled this way, you  can choose to make a different action that turn, though they are unable to make weapon attacks until the beginning of your next turn.

If a creature bonded with the Erroneous Shard would sustain damage, the Shard Takes that much damage as well. If a creature bonded with the Erroneous Shard attempts to remove the Shard through the use of an attack, a spell, or force, the bonded creature most roll 1d8, adding their Resolve. If the total result is 15 or less, that creature sustains 2d6 psychic damage. If the bonded creature undergoes a ritual of purification, if that creature (and by extension the Shard) sustains 25 or more water damage from a single source, if the Shard's HP or Will reaches 0, or if the bonded creature submerges their hands within salt water for one minute, the Erroneous Shard detaches itself from that creature.
