Forbidden Arts Part Two (Alpha 0.2)

Magic in Quests of Change comes in a wide variety of forms, with a plethora of uses. Though every magic-wielding class is capable of learning spells that help their caster either in or out of combat, nearly all spells available to a given spell-caster can be obtained through leveling up. However, there is one core exception: Forbidden Arts.

Forbidden Arts are among the most potent spells in all of Quests of Change. While most magic is entirely beneficial, the majority of these spells either take a toll on the caster to cast, or have noteworthy side effects.

While most spells can be gained via level ups, each Forbidden Art can only be gained when a character is taught how to perform said Art by its creator. Many of the oldest and most formidable Demons, Demigods, and the strongest beings of the realm such as the Bimbofier of Heroes and the Collector of Dolls are practitioners of their own respective Forbidden Arts. If an adventurer is able to gain the trust of such a being from performing arduous tasks or quests for them, they may offer the knowledge of how to cast their Forbidden Art as a reward.

It should be noted that Forbidden Arts are not restricted to being accessible by certain classes, though if the Art has an HP or MP cost, the caster must have access to said resource, as they would with any normal spell. Additionally, while Forbidden Arts are classified as spells, they are not count towards the number of spells a character knows.

The Following Are Some Examples Of Forbidden Arts:

Twinning:

Stories of the Matriarch of Vanity are spread through the Realm of Mortals for not just her narcissism, but her ability to magically create copies of objects and creatures. While she is capable of duplicating objects with ease through the use of her mirror, her ability to duplicate creatures is through a personalized ritual; one which she is capable of teaching to others. Due to the nature of the Matriarch of Vanity, this is not a ritual that is taught to other creatures frequently, as she only bestows it upon those whom she believes will use this power to further spread her image and influence throughout the world. When casting this ritual, a creature is able to attempt to create a copy of themselves out of nothingness, creating their duplicate from scratch, or they may use a "volunteer," an option with a more predictable outcome due to the manner in which a target is reshaped rather than being created outright.

When you learn this spell, you gain the Vain personality trait if you don't have it already.

Action: Ten consecutive Two-Handed actions that must be performed while adjacent to the target (if there is one)

MP Cost: 75

HP Cost:  50

Range: 1

Accuracy Dice: None

Spell Damage: None

Damage Type: None

Additional Effect: Upon casting this spell, you determine if you would like to create a copy of yourself out of nothingness or if you'd like to transform a humanoid creature. You spend ten consecutive two-handed actions to cast this spell. If you are transforming another creature, you must be adjacent to the creature throughout the entire casting of this spell. If you sustain any damage while casting this spell or if the target (if there is one) is more than one space from you, the ritual is interrupted and you must start over from the beginning.

If you choose to create a copy of yourself and are uninterrupted while casting the spell, roll 1d4.

1: You create a nearly identical copy of yourself. It's skin faintly glows pink and it has wings akin to that of a butterfly, granting it the ability of flight. It counts as a fairy. It has each of your class levels, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. It knows you created it but views you as inferior to itself, only viewing the Matriarch of Vanity with favor. It aims to make you it's servant. It knows three spells of the GM's choice from the Bimbomancer spell list. This copy is capable of casting Twinning.

2: You create an identical copy of yourself. It has each of your class levels minus 2d6, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. It knows you created it but it has no compulsion to follow your orders or help you. It gains five levels of bimbofication. This copy does not know Twinning.

3: You create an identical copy of yourself. It has each of your class levels minus 1d6, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. Additionally, it views you as its superior, knows you are its creator, and follows your verbal commands to the best of its ability. However, it gains 1d3 stages of Bimbofication. This copy does not know Twinning.

4: You create an identical copy of yourself. It has each of your class levels, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. Additionally, it views you as its superior, knows you are its creator, and follows your verbal commands to the best of its ability. This copy does not know Twinning.

If you choose to target another creature with this spell and are uninterrupted while casting the spell, roll 1d4.

1: You transform the target of this spell into a nearly identical copy of yourself, but it maintains features of it's original appearance such as it's race, skin color, and hair color. It loses its class levels and personality traits and has each of your class levels minus 1d6, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. It knows you transformed it and it has no compulsion to follow your orders or help you. It gains 1d3 levels of bimbofication. This copy does not know Twinning.

2-3: You transform the target of this spell into a nearly identical copy of yourself, but it maintains features of it's original appearance such as it's race, skin color, and hair color. It loses its class levels and personality traits and has each of your class levels, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. Additionally, it views you as its superior, knows you transformed it, and is perpetually hypnotized to follow your verbal commands to the best of its ability. This copy does not know Twinning.

4: You transform the target into an identical copy of yourself. It loses its race, class levels, and personality traits, and gains your race, each of your class levels, your memories, and your personality traits. It gains the Vain personality trait. Additionally, it views you as its superior, knows you transformed it, and is perpetually hypnotized to follow your verbal commands to the best of its ability. This copy does not know Twinning.

If a creature is transformed this way, this transformation is undone if that creature undergoes a ritual of purification or if either the Matriarch of Vanity or the creature that transformed it is defeated.

Once you successfully cast this spell, roll 1d4. You may not cast this spell against until that many days have passed.

If it's resolve is greater than your mind, it is only possessed on a roll of a 1. While possessing a creature this way, you don't have access to its class abilities or spells, but have access to its physical stats, your class abilities, and your spells. At the end of each of that creature's turns, it may repeat this spell's roll. Until a creature breaks free of this possession via a successful roll, you may possess it for up to one hour. If the creature you're possessing is defeated, this effect ends prematurely. Once you've possessed a creature with this spell, you cannot possess them again for 24 hours.
