Naga: Beguiling Naga and The Royal Of Coils (Alpha 0.1)

(HYP) (COR)

Found within dense jungles, Naga are serpentine people with latent hypnotic abilities. Though a Naga appears quite similar to a human from the waist up, they have long, scale-covered snake-like bodies in place of legs. The scales of a Naga can come in a variety of shades, from emerald, to aquamarine, to vermilion, with the scales also being present on their hands, forearms, backs, and necks.

A Naga’s eyes are capable of producing an enchanting magic effect that temporarily strips away a target’s inhibitions, turning their eyes into glowing warm swirls of orange and yellow, leaving a target blissfully (albeit lethargically) under the Naga’s control. However, it is quite common for stronger willed individuals to easily ignore this effect. Despite this, even  adventurers of great resolve must be wary, as Naga’s are able to wear away at even the most steadfast, able to afflict creatures with poison naturally produced by their bodies. While this poison isn’t deadly, it is a powerful aphrodisiac commonly used to make others more susceptible to their hypnosis.

Though some Naga will occasionally travel alone, trying to take advantage of inexperienced adventurers, they tend to travel is small groups of three to six Naga called broods. One of the most dangerous things that can happen when encountering a Naga brood is becoming cornered by several Naga, being constricted within their coils, afflicted and worn down with several doses of Naga poison, then being hypnotized into the brood’s mindless plaything for a night.

While Naga can be dangerous in their own right, they are each blindly loyal to the strongest of their kind, Royal Naga. Also known as a Royal of Coils, these Naga’s bodies are significantly longer than that of a normal Naga, and their bodies have an additional set of arms.

Often taking up residence in the ruins of abandoned jungle temples, a royal of coils personal brood often contains ten to twenty Naga. Pompous and egotistical, these royals love to break down and hypnotize those with particularly strong wills and notable intellect. In their free time, it is common for a Royal of Coils to hypnotize members of their brood for their entertainment, often even commanding them to hypnotize each other. While Naga are capable of traditional reproduction, if a royal of coils takes a particular liking to a creature, it may try to induct them into their brood via the Rite of the Naga, a ceremony that turns a creature into a Naga. While a creature transformed into a Naga this way maintains their personality and memories, this ritual causes that creature to become blindly loyal to Naga, most notably to the royal who performed the rite. As royals prefer the Naga who serve in their brood to be blindly loyal, this rite intentionally strips away some of that creature’s resolve. Whenever a creature it turned into a Naga through this ritual, their scales are notably the same shade as the Royal who'd performed the rite.

While this same rite can be performed to anoint other Royal Naga, this happens quite rarely, usually only taking place if a Royal of Coils seeks to serve aside a fellow king or queen.

Abilities:

Nocturnal: Naga are primarily active at night. They can see through darkness as though it were light.

Bite Of The Naga: As a one handed action, a Beguiling Naga can make a bite attack against a target on an adjacent space. This attack functions as an unarmed attack, but gains +1d6 accuracy die. In addition to dealing the normal damage of an unarmed attack, a creature becomes afflicted with Naga poison. Rather than dealing damage, at the beginning of that creature’s turn, their resolve is temporarily reduced by 1d2. If a creature would become afflicted with this poison more than once, the effects stack. This poison can be removed by any effects that remedy poison. These effects also leave a creature’s system after one hour.

Serpentine Form: The Beguiling Naga takes up three adjacent spaces. When combat begins, it is dictated which space contains the Naga’s upper body. When moving, that part of the Naga must move first, with the other two spaces it occupies trailing behind it, following the path of the upper body. As long as the Naga’s upper body is stationary,  Naga may use spaces of its movement to move the latter two spaces.

Limber Slither: A beguiling Naga may move through spaces occupied by other creatures as long as this movement does not result in the Naga and another creature simultaneously occupying the same space.

Constrict: As a two-handed action, as long as at least two spaces of the Naga’s body are adjacent to a target, it can attempt to restrict that target. The target rolls 1d6, adding their finesse. If the result is greater than 12, the target dodges this attack. If the result  is 11 or less, the target becomes constricted by the Naga. While constricted this way, the target’s movement is reduced to 0 and they lose the actions of both of their hands. At the beginning of their turn, a restrained target may roll 1d6 and add their strength. If the result is 14 or greater, they break free. Additionally, if the Naga takes damage while using this ability, it releases any target it’s constricting. This Naga may constrict no more than one target at once.

Beguiling Gaze: As a two handed action, the Naga may attempt to hypnotize a target on an adjacent space for the cost of 4 MP. The target rolls 1d4 and adds their resolve. If the result is 5 or less, the target’s will immediately becomes 0. If the target is currently being constricted by the Naga using this ability, the result needed to ignore this effect is increased by 2. This ability only works if the target is facing the user. If a target succeeds the roll to ignore this ability’s effect, their movement is reduced by one until the end of their next turn. If a target is defeated by this effect, they are blissfully hypnotized by the Naga for the next hour.

Devotion of the Naga: A Beguiling Naga is compelled to carry out orders issued to it by a Royal of Coils.

Then, if a total of 50 or more MP was spent this way, the target’s race is changed to Naga. If less than 50 MP is spent this way, this effect fails. If 120 or more MP is spent this way, the target instead becomes a Royal Naga. Royal Naga possess the same traits as a Naga, but do not gain the Devotion of the Naga ability, they gain the Rite of the Naga ability, they grow an additional set of arms, and they ignore the Naga race’s -4 resolve.
