Transformative Domains Part One (Alpha 0.1)

Adventurers can traverse all manner of landscapes and dungeons across the realms of Quests of Change. While the majority of transformative and altering effects are the result of an item or monster, in some infrequent cases, such effects can be the result of the land itself, resulting in what are known as Transformative Domains. Ranging in size and potency, a Transformative Domain is often the result of a powerful demon, angel, fairy, or even a demigod or manifestation of a god residing in a given location for hundreds (if not thousands) of years.

While the size and scale of Transformative Domains vary greatly, with the smallest being no more than a few acres, while the largest known domain encompasses an entire country, there are two constants that all Transformative Domains have in common: their effects are universal, and their effects are temporary. This means that all types of creatures that could be affected by a given domain will experience the domains effects as long as they remain in the domain. While some domains affect all creatures, others can only affect humanoids.

The potency of effects of given Transformative Domains vary greatly. While some effects are revered and sought after and others are widely feared and avoided, there are some that are simply viewed as minor quirks of a given location.

As Adventurers travel the realms, they should be consciously aware of the various types of Transformative Domains they may find. While they are far from common, Adventurers and explorers shouldn't be surprised if they bump into a Transformative Domain from time to time.

The following are several examples of Transformative Domains that appear in Quests of Change:

Bimbo Bay

Bimbo Bay is a bit of an oddity among Transformative Domains. A three-mile beach that was once home to Bliss, the demigod of Joy and Ignorance, the sand of this beach has permanently become tinted fuchsia. As long as a humanoid creature is standing on the sands of this beach or is within its surrounding waters, the creature is temporarily transformed into a bimbo, becoming female if they weren't already. As long as a creature is turned into a bimbo this way, they find it incredibly difficult to become angry or sad, and naturally find themselves filled with blissful ignorance, compelled to have fun. As soon as a creature leaves the sands of Bimbo Bay or travels a mile out from the waters of its shore, these transformative effects are immediately reversed.

While bimbofication is viewed by many to be an incredibly dangerous form of transformative magics, the safe and temporary nature of Bimbo Bay has made it quite sought after, resulting in a widely known resort being built upon it. Somewhat polarizing to tourists and adventurers, many travel to Bimbo Bay for vacations to unwind, have fun, and forget their troubles as giggling beach bimbos.

The Midnight Grove

The Midnight Grove is a massive forest approximately 350 miles in diameter that is home to the majority of fairies in Quests of Change. While it is incredibly common for fairies to travel across the realm, this perpetually misty grove is where most of these creatures originate, even containing several enchanted towns and cities. Flowers and plants within this groves grow at a speed of ten times their natural growth rate, and often include colors in their foliage they wouldn't have otherwise, most often blues and purples. The Fairy magics of the Midnight Grove are so potent that as long as a creature is present in the grove, they temporarily sprout gossamer wings akin to those of a butterfly or moth, gain the Fairy Flight ability, and are classified as a fairy for as long as they remain in the grove. Due to the universal flight of creatures within the grove, towns and cities within tote unique architectural designs incorporate the trees while lacking stairs or bridges. Once a creature moves more than fifty feet above the tree line or they leave the perimeter of the grove, they return to their original form (though they will retain any other transformative effects they sustained while in the grove).

Luné

Luné is the capital and home city of the Lunar Elves, blessed by the goddess of the moon, Lunys herself. Located in the midst of a frigid mountain range of the south pole, the Blessing of Lunys causes the city of Luné to experience perpetual and unending night under a full moon, while significantly altering its temperature to make it more hospitable. A massive sprawling cityscape of gothic architecture, Luné is frequently regarded as the world's center of the arts. However, while it is not widely known by outsiders, residents of Luné are familiar with the city's less glamorous underbelly which is run by various crime families and is rife with hedonism.

Outside of the light from the moon and stars, it is uncommon for light to shine in Luné. This is in part due to the natives and residents of the city being quite comfortable seeing through the darkness. However, it is primarily a result of the city's effect as a Transformative Domain, intentionally put in place by Lunys to make the city more accommodating to outsides. As long as creatures are within the borders of the city, their eye-color shifts to a silver, reminiscent of the moon. While their eyes have been changed this way, a creature is capable of seeing through the dark as if it were illuminated by daylight. However, while one's eyes are altered this way, they become quite sensitive to sunlight. Additionally, while a creature is within the confines of the city, its biology is subtly altered, requiring the creature to only sleep for a single hour to feel fully rested. Once a creature leaves the borders of Luné, these changes are reversed.
