Mind-Numbing Asp (Alpha 0.1)
Added 2021-11-21 07:55:59 +0000 UTCWhile the unversed may initially mistake a Mind-Numbing Asp as a run of the mill snake, these surprisingly intelligent creatures are a favored pet by many monsters, particularly those that aim to utilize mind altering effects. They can be distinguished through their pale coloration and the pinkish streaks across their backs.
Though these creatures are far from resilient and bite of this snake is quite harmless by itself, the toxin it carries is a completely different story. Once in a creature's system, the poison of a Mind-Numbing Asp can debilitate one's mind, making them significantly more susceptible to mind-altering effects.
While somewhat subdued and mellow in nature, these creatures are incredibly loyal to those who may care for them, which has led to many gaining useful assets out of Mind-Numbing Asps due to hatching them from their eggs, and raising them. They are suprisingly receptive to humanoid speech, and while they can't normally speak on their own, they can understand a language one has heard spoken for a total of one month. With shockingly high intelligence, they are able to remember and carry out orders and commands given to them by someone they trust. While some skilled beast-tamers are able to befriend and train Mind-Numbing Asps, they are most often found in the service of a Naga or a member of the Order of Bimbomancy, commonly worn in the manner of a living scarf or armband.

Abilities:
Tiny Companion: The Mind-Numbing Asp can occupy the same space as its owner.
Domesticated: The Mind-Numbing Asp carries out all orders given to it by its owner to the best of its ability. If it sees its owner take damage, it will attempt to attack the source of said damage to the best of its ability unless instructed otherwise.
Bite: As a two-handed action, the Mind-Numbing Asp can attempt to bite a creature. It makes an unarmed attack against the target. If it hits the target, they sustain 1 physical damage and become afflicted with Mind-Numbing Toxin.
Mind-Numbing Toxin: If a creature is afflicted with Mind-Numbing Toxin, that creature suffers the following effects for the next hour or until the poison is neutralized (if additional Mind-Numbing Toxin enters a creature's system, the effects are no more potent, but they last for an additional hour):
-If you would make a roll to prevent a mind-altering effect or the charmed or hypnotized status effects, roll twice and use the lower result.
-If an attack, effect, or spell would cause you to lose Will, you lose twice as much instead.
- Reduce your mind, resolve, and knowledge by -3.
Companion Potential: If a character with at least three levels in the Beast-Tamer class earns the trust and loyalty of a Mind-Numbing Asp, they can replace their companion with this creature. It gains the abilities and stat benefits of that Beast-Tamer's companion in addition to maintaining its own abilities.
