Patron Drive for March!

Hey Patrons!

Here is the latest link to the shared drive where all my drawings, 3D models, etc live. If you're new here, I post a link at the start of every month and the link expires, so keep that in mind when bookmarking. Instructions for viewing the files are in there as well. Thanks, and enjoy!

Thanks for the warning on that thread! I'll keep an eye out. I've found more than a few suspect things in these drawings, to be honest. I think there are a lot more mistakes than in the PM1's drawings. Probably fewer people build these big engines so they get fewer error reports.

Blondihacks

I'm building the same engine here in the UK (inspired by you!) And there are two things I have done on this subject... (1) the bolt clearance holes are too big so I've been using drills of exactly the thread diameter to give some better alignment and (2) used some 2mm dowel pins to eliminate any small slop that might remain. This has worked well. Also I have a warning!!! The threaded hole for the eccentric shaft in the sheave is wrongly stated as drilled to 3/16" on the drawing - it should be no. 25, or no 10-24 thread is possible! Anyhow, your series is fantastic - keep up the turnin' and milling x

Ian Thompson

That's a really good idea! Weirdly, the drawings show shouldered bolts that are presumably to hold alignment, but then the kit comes with crappy 1/4-20 hardware and no provision for said bolts. It was bugging me that the bearing caps had nothing to hold alignment. I think I'll add pins.

I would really like to see two pins in each cap, and two pins in bearing base-to-base interfaces. The old Norden bombsights were done that way: tweak all locations with the screws and then drill two pinways in each joint. A pair of over and under-size reamers to match your pins is really helpful. 1/16" should be plenty big for fixing these locations. You might need to make a very long extension for drilling.

Okay, I think now it should be fixed again.

Hmm... it seems to be broken again. I don't know what's going on with OneDrive lately... Hang on...

Same here...

Hi Quinn. The link posted above appears not to be working. MS say the file does not exist or may not be available.

John Niemeyer

My apologies! That link was indeed wrong. I've updated it in the post above. Should be working now.

Blondihacks

Looks like the OneDrive link for March is not working , MS tell me the file doesn’t exist
