Payment issues with Patreon

Hey everyone!

First of all, let me say that the response to the annual memberships has been overwhelming. I had no idea so many people wanted it. Many of you even upgraded a tier as part of going annual, so thank you for that! The support has really been incredible here.

On another note, Patreon is apparently having some issues with one of their payment processors. They sent us this note (below). Sorry about this mess, if any of you are affected. 



Hi there,

An issue with a payment partner is causing a slightly higher-than-normal number of your patron payments to be declined by their banks. We've traced the increased declines back to payments system upgrades required by one of our processing partners. Patrons might see some payments declined while changes take effect.

If a patron reaches out to you about a decline, you can advise them to follow these steps:

  1. Contact their card issuer to confirm the charge is valid and retry that card
  2. If the retry does not work, try a different payment method. Patrons can edit their payments in their Settings, under Billing History:

Qinn, not to worry. I've decided to hold off on the annual thing until it's a "proven" method. Until then I'll keep on keepin on.

That would not surprise me. Probably chasing tax breaks overseas

Hearsay says that Patreon changed the payment processing address from a US address to an overseas address. Overseas payments are suspicious unless pre-authorized or part of a prior regular pattern (anti-fraud algorithms). Unfortunately, the avalanche of declined payments has overloaded the normal support staff, but we can all hope this was a learning moment for those involved. From all of us that watch your lovely content, thank you Quinn for being patient and kind as your income stream was disrupted.
