New Lens Videos
Added 2019-07-04 02:29:15 +0000 UTCHey Patrons! Only a small percentage of you take advantage of my behind-the-scenes Lens videos. I posted a few more just now on a new thread-cutting technique that I’m trying out. Give Lens videos a try! You can see them here in the feed, or by using the Patreon app. You must be $5+ to see them. Thanks all!

That would be a great project for sure! I’ll look into that.

2019-08-06 14:54:29 +0000 UTCI just saw a lens video on the engineers drawers. I have to say I love all of your work and projects. Maybe you could do one on making a rotary broach if this is at all possible.

2019-08-06 12:24:05 +0000 UTCThere aren't any active Lens videos at the moment. The most recent one was more than 24h ago. I see that you were billed for the first time on Aug 1st, so you should see the next Lens video I post.

2019-08-04 19:47:33 +0000 UTCI still can't see a video. I've been with you for a little while now

2019-08-04 19:39:37 +0000 UTCThe key feature of Lens videos is that they automatically get routed to the right set of Patrons based on your contribution level. That's really tough to do with other systems, and Patreon doesn't give me access to the actual videos. They are sent from the app and not stored anywhere. I'll keep looking for other options for doing this, but the convenience on my end matters a fair bit, or I won't have the available time to do them at all.

2019-07-07 00:42:37 +0000 UTCMaybe post these videos somewhere we can actually see them ... link to Dropbox ???

2019-07-06 21:17:12 +0000 UTCThanks for the answer, makes sense. As far as I'm concerned, it is not necessary to start posting notifications again as I will check on the blog from time to time anyway - except perhaps for very significant events, like when you will finally plug up Veronica to Johnny for instance.

2019-07-05 19:51:24 +0000 UTCYes, I did indeed used to do that. The reason was actually tangential- I used to charge Patrons for each blog post, back when Blondihacks was primarily a blog. Now it's sort of a mixed media endeavor, with Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and blog content, so charging per-post no longer made sense. With the switch to a much simpler monthly payment system, I didn't have to "post" to charge Patrons each time. I can still post notifications here of new content though, if that was helpful?

2019-07-05 18:59:22 +0000 UTCTo the point : did I imagine you posting patreon updates any time you posted a new blondihacks blog entry in the past ? If you did, it looks like you stopped after the "Swiveling Tripod Adapter" one, was that on purpose ? Looking on the bright side, I just discovered I have 4 nice posts to read ^_^

2019-07-05 18:38:01 +0000 UTCHi David! Lens videos only last 24hours (annoying I know, but that’s how they work). When you get the notification you have go look right away.

2019-07-05 15:15:35 +0000 UTCI can’t see any video here either and I’m well past the next billing cycle.

2019-07-05 08:36:02 +0000 UTCHi Steve- sorry to hear that! This is probably because Patreon doesn't show benefits to people at a particular level until a full payment cycle has completed at that level. It's their way of preventing look-e-loos on paid content, I think. If you still can't see $5 content after the next Patreon billing statement, let me know!

2019-07-04 17:27:09 +0000 UTCRight? As soon as I learned that, I was amazed anyone does it any other way. That said, some lathes can't do it. A lot of older machines have thread-on chucks, so you can't safely run them backwards. This might be why the tradition is to do it in the more "dangerous" way.

2019-07-04 17:24:47 +0000 UTCI don’t see a video here???

2019-07-04 15:19:21 +0000 UTCUrmagerd! It makes so much more sense to do the thread-cutting like that.
