Toolmaker's Clamps - Models & Drawings

Hey Patrons! Here are the models and drawings for the toolmakers clamps that I showed in the video. The "type 2" are the ones I made, and the "type 1" are also included here if you want to make those. These files will also go on the shared Patron drive with the monthly password. I hope you like it!

The Relay went from AvE to NYC CNC (aka Saunders Machine Works). They added a part, but sadly didn't do a video. They did send it off to another YouTuber though. I hope to hear something about it, but I don't know when.

Thanks again for the diagram! BTW, what is happening with the project that was in the hands of AvE (last time I seen it...

I think some took my comment a bit too seriously. :-)

Yep, what you said, Quinn!

On the Imperial vs. Metric question, I think folks get tied up in knots over the wrong part of the debate. When machining to dimensions, the units don't matter. Both Imperial and Metric machinists use decimals, so the units are only setting the size of the numbers. Whether you call it 162 thou or 4.1mm really doesn't matter. I think where the interesting debate comes in is on the subject of standards. On threads and drills, for example, Metric really shines. The system of mapping drills to taps and thread pitches is all very elegant, since it was designed from the ground up, rather than evolving from old Victorian practices. However aside from that, in the machine shop, I think the differences are all academic. This isn't a science lab, where Metric is unambiguously superior. As a Canadian, I grew up with both, and find value in both.

Keith, I’ve been watching your videos for well over a year, almost every day and many days I’ve watched until my wife gets annoyed. On some that I’ve saved I can anticipate a joke or some other nonsense. I have begun to find other YouTuber’s who seem to show similar kindness and desire to instruct, but . . . they use those wrigglers and other tools you comment upon to the point that I find myself saying, “when I get my mill I’ll have to get one of those”, only to then say, let’s see what Keith says, and then I return to calm reality. No need to respond to this ramble, just another word of thanks for all you do for us, God bless and Happy Fathers Day from the States.

NO! As my uncle grumbled "There is noting you can do in metric that we can't do with imperial."

Jim Brink

When I see imperial measurements all listed as decimals (rather than 1/10" or 7/20") I keep thinking "You're so close to going metric...go on yes you can do it.
