So in my Cyberpunk setting, things have advanced enough that some citizens have the option to completely upload their consciousness into the Net and exist as Uploads. The tech is still fairly natal, and as a result the security and laws regarding Uploads is positively zygotian (pretty sure I just made that word up).. as a result, it's very much the Wild West for the Uploads that are out there.

For the most part they earn their Hosting (keep) providing various digital services that generally aren't at all difficult for a digital mind.. database admins, channel mods, all sorts of stuff. Some particularly talented Uploads find work as personal assistants for the more action-oriented members of society.

... It's also a pretty horny subsect of the population, given that their digital nature removes preeeetty much all the potential downsides of sex.

Bitrate here was one of the earliest adopters of the Upload life, having been a tech head all his life, and he's done a shockingly good job of scouring his 'meatspace' name from all record, along with every record he could find of his old life. Netsec's tighter these days regarding Uploads, probably due to Bitrate doing a bit of White Hat work after the fact to shore up the holes he exploited.

Currently, he's a valued asset of Pentech, and is Jaye's personal Virtual Assistant (VA.) As such his core routines are on a chip in her head, making it his 'home,' so to speak. Fortunately for her, due to her almost always having a Net connection, he spends the vast majority of his awareness out and about most of the time unless she's specifically talking to him or needing him to do some computer-related heavy lifting.
