2018-01-24 15:34:29 +0000 UTCI grew up in a religious household but I am not religious myself. I attend a private Christian university in Texas (on scholarship, I would/could never pay 60k/year in tuition) and it has seriously affected how I approach religion. I used to understand it and see the merit in it but after taking mandatory and very biased biblical history and Christian studies courses I can only see the manipulation and corruption. I would write papers for these classes and any bit of opposition or criticism I included immediately lowered my grade by a few letters. I took one of the courses online where you would turn in your papers publicly to the class page and I could see what people were turning in and papers that would have the significantly higher vocabulary, reasoning, logic, composition value would receive well below the class average just because they would argue against what the professor believed. I often had to juggle with whether I wanted to write based on my convictions and the evidence I have been presented in the course itself or if I wanted to keep a GPA. I respect everyone and their beliefs but what I have experienced is anything but righteous. (If any of you riblets are also admins from my school pls don't expel/fine me I'm just trying to live my life).

2018-01-19 20:41:05 +0000 UTCI am Christian but don’t like to say so because of the connotation that comes with it in this country. I agree with everything Shaynie said, the way certain Christians live out their lives is exactly the people Jesus condemned when he came to earth. When someone asks, I say I have a relationship with God and I work for an organization that leads a group of high school kids and is just here for them to hang out and listen to them and encourage them to think about God and maybe, if they want, to begin a relationship with Him. BUT I accept anyone and what they believe, I get you guys but I also get Cole and why he does what he does. He’s way too vanilla for me but I get him. And my family isn’t religious so I get people who aren’t into religion. Idk sorry this is too long but yes. Love you guys!

2018-01-19 15:00:09 +0000 UTCI just spit my coffee out because of the “sex sounds” Noel was making
2018-01-19 13:45:40 +0000 UTCTo be serious for a sec & to answer Noel’s question: I’m a devout Christian and my faith is really important to me, and because of that, I have a lot of criticisms about Christianity (especially here in the US) as well as organized religion as a whole. I feel like it’s often weaponized and used in an oppressive manner, especially as it relates to marginalized communities, which is, needless to say, shitty & completely the opposite of what it’s supposed to be. I understand and respect why some people don’t fw it because there was a time when I didn’t either. I still wrestle with doubt, which is normal, and disappointment at how a lot of Christians are, but that has helped me cultivate what I feel is an authentic relationship with God. Also, I don’t fw Cole either, so I can’t help but laugh when y’all torch him. Love y’all. Keep up the good work.
2018-01-19 07:59:38 +0000 UTCThis shit really helps with my depression fam. Y’all really just snap.
