On Friday, we did a shoot with the incredible body painter, Nelly Recchia. She came up with this concept, and it’s entirely painted on. We have a video coming tomorrow so you can see her process, and watch the photo being taken by Albert Sanchez.
I have known Nelly for about 20 years. I’ve also posted the photos we did way back when with Sheryl Neilds. Some of these were in my first book. Nelly has also painted the circus cat bodysuits worn in the Glamonatrix show, and she also did an incredible full body paint one New Year’s Eve on ballerina Theresa Farrell for the first debut of the circus tamer act.
Stay tuned for the video, coming exclusively here tomorrow!
And—- Happy Halloween! I’d love to hear about your costumes if you dressed up, or plan on dressing up, and if you love Halloween, what are your go to costumes?
When I was in my 20s, I was always dressing up as people NO ONE knew. One of my favorites, and I thought I was sooooo clever for it, was La Cicciolina Ilona Staller. I had the long blonde wig, flower crown, heavy brows and carefully studied makeup including bright blue mascara. I carried with me a plushy bunny and wore nothing but an Italian flag. Another year, I made my boyfriend at the time dress as the Marquis de Sade, and me and my girlfriends wore powered wigs and corsets with fake whip marks all over us. It was the 90s in OC, and I am pretty sure not one person ever clocked any of it without being told.
These days, my last minute go-to costume is a jockey outfit I bought one year at one of the Hollywood auctions. It was from the Phantom of the Opera film, a ladies Victorian style jockey dress that was used for the masquerade ball scene. I usually wear the jacket and pants with boots, but last night I wore the whole thing out to a last minute party. I didn’t take any photos, unfortunately. I had to flee the scene after about an hour, because it was bizarre, too “Hollywood”, and not in a good way. And I fell asleep in the car ride home. I just wanted to get home to my kitties, to be honest!
