Grace Jones at Gay Pride 🏳️‍🌈

I had the unexpected pleasure of being invited to see Grace Jones last night at gay pride in West Hollywood. I had met her manager a few times in Paris, and so I was delighted when he reached out and said that Grace wanted to invite me and meet me. I’ve been in the room with Grace Jones before, but wouldn’t have dared introduce myself!

I’ve seen her play many times, and she was fantastic as always.

After the show, I got shuffled into her trailer dressing room where she was getting undressed, and recovering from the performance. Brigitte Nielsen was also in the room. I said my hellos, and did my best to express my admiration and gratitude. Meanwhile, freshly shucked oysters were being brought in for her aftershow meal…good idea! Maybe I’ll try that sometime! 💥😂 I only ever thought about getting the perfect firm banana, a bottle of champagne, and a modest crudités platter!

I didn’t stay in the dressing room long, I got the feeling that she and Brigitte were good friends, and I didn’t want to intrude or overstay my welcome.

I did not ask for a picture.

I took a photo of Grace’s famous hula hoop, and Maripol took a Polaroid of me.

In hindsight, I should have asked her to take a Polaroid of me and Grace. They seem to be very good friends, so I’m sure she would have not been afraid to ask, like me!

There are lots of amazing people I admire, who are quite famous, and I never really ask for photos. I spent numerous times with Prince at his house, and I just always felt that it would be a violation to ask….and I was always more interested in being invited back! Which I was. 💖

Now, that’s not to say I mind taking photos with people who ask me. I think it’s just a little bit different with certain people who you can feel don’t invite many people into their inner circle, and or used to the photo being people’s first priority. And yes, I do decline if someone asks for a picture when they shouldn’t; like say, after a massage, during a facial, while eating… I definitely have my boundaries, as we all should.

Anyway, I wish I had a picture of me and Grace to share with you, but I have a great memory, and this hula hoop is legendary!

This I how I felt when I met you at the Riverside meet and greet! You are such an icon and inspiration, I was so nervous and didn't want to hold you up for your other admirers I could barely pose. But I'm going to keep coming to meet and greets as much as possible, especially because you're so sweet! ❤️💃(no name puns intended)

I can imagine you get to see a lot, and get invited into some of the most exclusive places. I would respond the same way. I’ve met a lot of celebrities, most often at work, and I’ve always admired them from afar for the most part.
