Greetings!
I just arrived in Bangkok yesterday, a very quick trip to perform at the grand opening of The Standard Hotel. These shows aren't always spotlights and velvet curtains, but rather more of a "see what you can do in this space"type thing. I had Cali take this video, because it was BONKERS... you can only see about 2% of the camera-phone frenzy here, and I was left with about half the dance space because they keep pushing forward. All fine though, it just adds to the international Sport of Striptease.
I'm wearing a favorite costume from the past, this Catherine D'Lish gown that was first created for a show I did for the Louboutin store opening in New York City, where I remember using Diane von Furstenberg's personal office as a dressing room. The costume was re-fashioned several years ago, and the corset was remade for a little bit more room. The original corset was from the days where I wanted to have the smallest waist possible, but then one day I thought "wouldn't it be nice if I didn't feel like I would die if the show was delayed five minutes?" I pulled this costume out, knowing I could manage just about any stage someone always steps on the tulle train, despite my warnings "someone always steps on the train... don't let it be you!" last night I think it was just one person but it was barley a step and didn't rip the tulle. I often wonder, did people just KNOW to look out for gown trains in the olden days, or has it always been a thing?
So just before I went on, knowing I was high on a rooftop, I quipped, "well at least I don't have to worry about a camera behind me this time!" I am always briefed on where the cameras will be, but no one was ready for the drone to sweep up from the sky behind me. I am working on getting that footage for you...poor Cali was trying to kill the drone. Sometimes I get onstage and there's be a cameraman ON stage, with me, just thinking he's got a good spot. 😂 This is when striptease can feel like a sport, navigating the variables which can range from aggressive cameras, to people trying to make off with my bra or undies as a souvenir.
I was really looking forward to a little olive splish-splash, but alas, someone forgot to put it in the martini. It's kind of a big part of the show. I can't remember the last time I had a garnish-free show... I had to make do! Sorry not sorry to the front row, but sometimes you get on the amusement ride, and you get wet, what can I say. The photos of the splashing are pretty great, I'll post them shortly. I am sorry you can't see the end where I had four security guys wrapping towels around me...those huge bath sheet type towels, many of them, all at once.😂
I hope you enjoy the video, and now I have one free day here in Bangkok before I start the 24 hour journey back home. I can rarely resist the invitation to fly across the world to perform, and the adventures and memories created from shows like this. That being said, performances like this, as amusing as they are, make me VERY grateful for the tour, and all the things my team is able to do in theatres to make it a pleasure to perform. 🌹
