I'm using cellular automata to guide terrain generation as well as generating dungeon maps. I really like the idea of using it for climate as well. Perhaps provide a way to progress the simulation by n steps according to how game-time progresses. Wooof, I have so much work ahead of me :)

2023-03-28 20:39:30 +0000 UTCNow you need water tables, altitudes, climate, and ultimately wetlands. Then comes ecology. Having a hex cell structure means you can play with a lot of interesting models for weather propagation and whatnot. I'm not sure it's ultimately worth it? But maybe it is. There are these models called cellular automata which you may want to investigate if it's of interest.
