2021-11-21 02:11:20 +0000 UTCI'm really happy with your reaction man! It's the battle theme for the final boss fight. FF is known for their convoluted stories, but ff8 really pushes that. Basically you fight a sorceress from the future who is reaching back through time for the main characters love interest in order to achieve something called 'Time Compression.' Your party travels to the end of time to fight her, and it's whack. You said something about castlevania, which I thought was funny because the entire game is set in a modern to futuristic setting, but the castle of this sorceress (in the future) is a gothic like castle, like you'd find in castlevania. Thought that was funny

2021-11-20 15:12:41 +0000 UTCWell, you are basically fighting the baddest meanest witch in a time that should not exist so the scary, dissonant parts that make you uncomfortable make a lot of sense in context.
2021-11-20 14:43:04 +0000 UTCMy fave part is the part (2:57 in this video) where that bassline kicks in because it is iconic in the series - it is used in every main battle theme but was absent from FF7 (I think?) and used only here at the end in FF8
