Chapter 1: After All These Years

• Holy shit, Republic City looks amazing now. I love the integration of the spirits and the vines.
  • OH MY GOD HOBO GOMMU.
• ASAMI ROCKIN’ THAT NEW OUTFIT AND THE PONYTAIL.
• I love the new airbending suits. Props to Asami for the designs.
• Oh ew Wu. Kill me. I hate him so much.
• MAKO. HI, MAKO.
  • I remember in the Book 4 trailer, that scene where there’s a stain on Mako’s shirt, I thought it was this flame design on his shirt, and I loved it. I am very sad that he’s wearing just a plain outfit.
• BEHOLD THE GREAT STATE OF YI.
• They really didn’t hold back on the fallout of the Earth Queen’s demise. THIS IS THE FUTURE THE RED LOTUS WANTED.
  • I am kinda sad that there’s no scare of potential Red Lotus members that Kuvira uses for propaganda.
• KAI AND OPAL OH MY GOD HI GUYS.
• I love Kuvira’s theme. I’m here for those drums.
  • To be fair, the Earth Kingdom needed to have order restored. The place is a fucking mess. Of course, that vacuum gave way for a dictator - Kuvira.
• BOLIN. HI, BOLIN. He’s doing what he believes is right; he’s just been blinded by Kuvira.
• Here I’m willing to defend the metal on Kuvira’s armor, since it’s not her entire uniform like the metalbending police. CHECK OUT THE WAY SHE USES THE PIECES OF METAL FROM HER SUIT IN BATTLE, MY GOD.
• Can I give Zelda Williams props on Kuvira’s voice? My god.
  • I still wish we got more of her in Book 3.
• I want to beat Wu to death with his cane. Poor Mako.
• Now THIS is how you show social unrest. You can see the divide between Wu and Kuvira’s supporters clearly.
• And Bopal has been sunk. Fuck my life.
• Ooh, nice way to show us Kuvira as a real threat (Aside from her threat to leave the bandits to die by high-speed train - which is also pretty fucked up I might say.).
  • Wait, did this bitch get Kyoshi Island? WHERE ARE THE KYOSHI WARRIORS WHEN YOU NEED THEM? Actually, where have they been?
• I like Opal and Kai’s conversation, talking about their problems. This episode’s done a great job at showing how much has changed in three years without boring the audience.
• I wonder if this guy is just a rogue bandit, or is a Kuvira supporter trying to undermine Yi. I don’t think it was ever made clear.
• Okay I love Ikki with long hair, and she’s definitely gotten more mature. But I still hate Meelo.
• WHAT? BUT MAKO IS A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED REPUBLIC.
• TONRAQ. HI TONRAQ. Ooh, gray hairs.
• GASP. KORRA BE MISSING. OH DEAR.
  • Korra, I love you, but you’re no Blind Bandit. But she does rock short hair.
  • Nice setup for next episode explaining how Korra got here, though, and saving her til the very end of the first episode.

Chapter 2: Korra Alone

• First off… nice throwback to “Zuko Alone.” Very good title.
• Nice start with the broken mirror.
• Korra’s still got good reflexes.
• OH SHIT AVATAR STATE KORRA THAT’S HORRIFYING.
• Awe, these people were so nice to her. Nice to see not everyone’s a dick.
• FLASHBACK TIME.
• AWE, ASAMI WANTING TO GO WITH KORRA. MY HEART.
• KORRA, MY CHILD, SOMEONE HELP HER.
• Awe, I love Korra’s parents so much. This scene hurt so damn deep.
• YAY KATARA. HI, KATARA.
• Korra’s excitement at moving her toe, and Katara’s smile… OH MY HEART.
• I like that Korra didn’t immediately learn to walk right away, but even when she can walk fine, it’s not the solution to all her problems. It’s just one part of a greater whole.
  • NAGA’S CONCERN FOR KORRA AND THEN KORRA HUGGING NAGA HURT ME.
• AWE, THE LETTERS HURT ME. Good for Asami’s progress, though. And Mako’s so damn awkward even in his letters, WHERE WAS THIS MAKO IN BOOKS 1 AND 2? And Bolin’s drawings… my fucking god.
• Korra needed to melt down like that, and I’m happy they let her do that.
  • Listen, kids: blocking out negative emotions only makes them worse. Let them out in a healthy way and deal with them.
• I am here for therapist Katara relating Korra and Aang’s struggles.
• I DEMAND SOMEONE PUT KORRA’S RECOVERY TO “ARMED AND READY.”
• Ooh, flash forward to the present. I like it.
• LOOK AT DA LITTLE PUPPERSCHNUP. IT’S SO CUTE.
• Even while recovering, Korra’s still Korra.
  • I like the callbacks to the very first episode. Even the music is kinda the same.
• SHE ONLY WROTE TO ASAMI. MY HEART. KORRASAMI FTW.
  • I mean they couldn’t do much cuz they were the main characters. That’s why they didn’t kiss in the finale. Sigh. At least the comics fully embrace the gay.
    • Actually “Embrace the Gay” sounds like a really good title. I’M SAVING THAT.
• KORRA, NO, DON’T GO ALONE. I KNOW THAT’S THE TITLE, BUT AT LEAST TAKE NAGA.
  • I wonder how much would’ve changed in these events if she’d seen everyone in Republic City. She was right there, too.
• Ooh, I love this little island village.
  • Okay I like this guy fangirling, but Korra did not need him comparing her to Aang, or that bitchy lady.
  • THAT LITTLE TRIBUTE TO AANG BENDING THE PEBBLES MY GOD.
• LOOK AT THE CUTE LITTLE SPIRITS OH MY GOD. But my god, Korra’s just been wandering alone for so long… my heart.
  • She hasn’t spoken with Raava since the Book 2 finale. I kinda wish that was a plot point in Book 3 like it is here.
• I love these little clips with the Avatar State Korra, and showing just how much traveling Korra has done.
  • OH MY GOD THE BIT WITH RAAVA OVER THE DUNE AND THEN KORRA CRYING ALONE IN THE DESERT MY FUCKING HEART CAN’T TAKE THIS.
• SO THAT’S HOW SHE GOT INTO THE RING. Thank god it wasn’t a generic plot of her entering a tournament for a ton of episodes trying to get stronger. I mean it could be done well but eh.
  • Nice turning the opponent into the Avatar State Korra, and blacking out the arena. REALLY DAMN GOOD IMAGERY.
• THE SWAMP. OH MY GOD THE SWAMP. AND THE CUTE LITTLE SPIRIT.
• Okay, a pool of mercury? Not cool, PTSD visions. Not cool.
• “TWINKLE TOES.” OH MY GOD, TOPH. HI, TOPH. I MISSED YOU. AAAAH. I CAN’T EVEN.

Chapter 3: The Coronation

• Seriously I LOOOOOVE spirit-y Republic City.
• Okay, kinda grateful Wu never became king. It’s be the Earth Queen all over again (Albeit less of an evil bitch.).
• Kuvira sends dissenters to prison camps? Can we see this please?
• OOOOH, TOPH CALLING KORRA OUT, OH DAMN.
  • “The names change, but the street stays the same.”
• OH MY GOD ESKA AND DESNA YES.
  • “It’s no mistake.” Oh god no… “Desna sleeps in the tub.” OH THANK GOD.
• I really wanna see what Ba Sing Se looks like now.
• I DEMAND TO KNOW WHERE ASAMI IS. I WANT HER AND BOLIN TO REUNITE.
• SUYIN. HI, SUYIN.
• Okay I’m here for Kuvira showing Wu who’s boss.
• OH MY GOD, GUN. HI, GUN.
  • “When the queen was… removed for office.” Nice choice of words.
• OH MY GOD SQUIRREL FROG.
• TOPH HAS SEEN THE ENTIRE SERIES THROUGH THE VINES THEN. HOLY SHIT.
  • “You’re blind compared to me.”
• OH MY GOD FIRELORD IZUMI. SHE LOOKS SO COOL. Also, is that Malina - Unalaq’s wife and Eska and Desna’s mother - in the crowd next to Bolin?
• Wait, but if Kuvira hates the idea of monarchy, what does she want out of an empire? Maybe she chooses who succeeds her as emperor / empress?
  • To be fair, the Earth Kingdom most likely would go back to how it was before under Wu.
  • They say history repeats itself, and it’s true: first Chin the Conqueror, then Firelords Sozin, Azulon, and Ozai, and now Empress Kuvira. It’s interesting to see this cycle shifting.
    • $10 after Kuvira was done with the United Republic, she’d target the Fire Nation for reparations from the Hundred Year War.
• The fact that Bolin is going along with Kuvira calling it the Earth Empire… my god. Kuvira is damn good with words and with persuading people.
• Suyin and Kuvira are both making great arguments. God bless Books 3 and 4 for doing what 1 and 2 tried to do but couldn’t pull off.
  • “Then you know what’s coming for Zaofu.” OH SHIT.
• THAT STAIN ON MAKO’S SHIRT. THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE FLAME DESIGN. UGH.
• “Imagine me in my prime! I would’ve destroyed you!” I love Toph.
  • Seriously, who else wants to see Book 3 Aang, Katara, Toph, and Zuko versus the Red Lotus? Team Avatar would crush them like bugs.
• Is it bad I feel the writers want us to ship Mako and Wu like Korrasami? Cuz I’m kinda tempted to.
• OH MY GOD THE STUFFED BOSCO HURTS ME.
• God bless Mako calling Wu out on his bullshit.

• The kids are going after Korra… oh dear.

Chapter 4: The Calling

• I like the new greenhouse for Air Temple Island.
• Seriously these kids are fucked.
• OH MY GOD FUCK MEELO.
• JINORA HAS HER OWN BISON NAMED PEPPER. YES.
• DAMN MEELO CAN DRAW. I still hate him.
• Daw, Meelo got a girl (Tuyen). Maybe she can un-douchify him.
• I want the entire franchise put to Toph’s commentary. MY GOD HER RECAPS.
• MEELO THREW THE FOOD IN THE RIVER? WHAT IN THE FUCK, WHY?
• OH MY GOD TINY BABY SQUIRREL.
• Awe, Ikki is so stressed, this girl needs a hug.
  • She’s smart enough to know when people are trying to play her.
• Oh my god this guard is adorable.
  • OH MY GOD IKKI IS BONDING WITH THE GUARDS I CAN’T I ACTUALLY HAVE GROWN TO LOVE IKKI.
• YAY PTSD VISIONS.
• OH MY GOD IKKI WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE ROPES SO EASILY.
• Thank you, show, for acknowledging that the antagonists had pretty good philosophies.

  • Blake could learn a lesson from Korra about disconnecting from the people who love her.

Chapter 5: Enemy at the Gates

• Immediately with start with Kuvira’s army approaching Zaofu. Dear god the tension is immediate.
  • God, look at all the airships, tanks, and robotic suits.
  • So I’m guessing Zaofu is along the border of the Earth Kingdom and the United Republic.
• “Zaofu stopped being my home long ago.” I’d like to know why, though. I don’t think it was ever explained besides Bataar Jr.’s love for Kuvira.
  • Maybe he and Opal bonded over being the only nonbenders in the family (Besides Bataar Sr.), and when Opal became an airbender, he lost that. Maybe he felt isolated from the family and undervalued, and him being Bataar Jr. rather than having his own name solidified that.
• Can I push Meelo off the bison to his death after cutting the flaps on his suit? Seriously, you’re not helping Korra’s situation.
• VARRICK. HI, VARRICK.
  • Two Zhu Lis? She’s a unit of measure?
  • “ZHU LI, SHUT IT DOWN. THERE ARE TOO MANY VARRICKS.” YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY VARRICKS.
• Ooh, the cannon makes the same noise as Vaatu’s spirit attack?
• “I think you’re just weak, sir.”
• I SHIP VARRICK AND ZHU LI SO BAD.
• OH MY GOD KUVIRA IS TERRIFYING, AND BATAAR JR. IS FINE WITH HER MAKING MURDER THREATS. WTF???
  • At last someone has learned the magic of metalbending the metal on another person’s clothes.
• ASAMI. HI, ASAMI. Oh… oh there goes my heart.
  • God look at Hiroshi. He looks awful. I kinda feel bad for him, minus him trying to murder Asami.
  • “You’re the one thing I look back on that makes me smile. You are the greatest thing I ever created.” MY HEART.
• So Bolin is just a tool for Kuvira. Not shocking.
• “Su, I didn’t bring my army to threaten you.” BULLSHIT.
• I’m happy they made the Zaofu plot two episodes. One would feel like they’re trying to cram too much into 22 minutes.
• Poor Bolin trying to be the diplomat.
  • The fact he’s saying Earth Empire tells you everything you need to know.
• SU HAPPY TO SEE KORRA AGAIN MY HEART.
• Bolin trying to lightly persuade Kuvira results in her legit threatening him. RUN, BOLIN.
• “She was like a daughter to me.” So… where was she last season? I mean I touched on this before, but I think having Kuvira be part of the main team once we got to Zaofu would make the Book 4 plot much more personal. Imagine Korra going to hug Kuvira and Kuvira is cold and distant.
• FLASHBACK TIME. I kinda like Kuvira with the long hair.
• I’m happy Suyin was afraid of becoming a dictator, though I do think someone had to go in and help the Earth Kingdom from getting any worse. Power vacuums often make way for dictators. That’s usually how revolutions go as well, with the military taking control.
• ASAMI AGAIN. MY HEART. I LOVE HER SO MUCH, MY GOD.
  • Again, she rocks the new outfit and ponytail.
• Poor stressed Varrick. He needs a hug.
• Kuvira is damn good with her words, I will admit. Then again, every dictator needs at least two skills: charisma and manipulation.
  • I get Korra trying to see things from Kuvira’s perspective, but Kuvira is playing her like a damn fiddle.
• MECH FIGHT. BOLIN LAVABENDING. ZHU LI KICKING ASS. YESSSS.
  • “What idiot designed these things?” “YOU DID, SIR.”
• Damn these mechs have gotten a lot more agile in combat.
• DAMMIT VARRICK. YES, ZHU LI, SAVE YOUR MAN.
• THE LAVABENDING LOOKS SO FUCKING COOL.
• Fuck Bataar Jr. Fuck him with a sword.
• ASAMI AND HIROSHI PLAYING PAI SHO. I CAN’T.
  • “I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to forgive you… but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try.”
• I already know the Zhu Li twist, but my god this girl can act and think on her feet. Also, nice drama for the audience. YOU CANNOT BREAK VARRICK AND ZHU LI APART.
  • YES, ZHU LI, PLAY KUVIRA LIKE A GODDAMN FIDDLE.
  • “Guards, do the thing!”

Chapter 6: Battle of Zaofu

• I get Suyin’s desperation, but Kuvira was definitely expecting this. And the fact she used Zhu Li as bait, my god. What a way to start the episode.
• Nice to see Korra trying to see things from her enemy’s perspective, and to see Opal so aggressive for a change.
• Oh my god Huan’s bed head gives me life.
• Someone give Varrick a hug.
• Okay I don’t know why… but I find the prisons Sum Wing, and Wei are in hilarious.
• The fact Kuvira is playing with Opal’s emotions to throw her off her game… damn, Kuvira is a good villain.
• I’d imagine a lot of people in the Earth Kingdom would hate Zaofu for how well off it is compared to the rest of the country.
• “This is about equality.” In the distance, Amon saying “I like her.”
• God looking at the Earth Empire army reminds me of the Fire Nation army… history does repeat itself.
• Appreciation time for Zelda William’s performance as Kuvira.
• Kuvira was sure she could take Korra down one-on-one, my god. QUIT TAKING LOW BLOWS, KUVIRA.
• I’m with Opal, just glow it up and take Kuvira down, please.
• You can see Zhu Li isn’t totally on board with the way she’s clapping.
• Korra is a lot slower in this fight than she used to be. I like that she still hasn’t fully recovered.
• Varrick wanted to make clean energy with the spirit vines… SOMEONE SAVE THAT FOR A POTENTIAL FUTURE AVATAR SERIES.
  • ACTUALLY GUYS WE’RE MAKING OUR OWN AVATAR SERIES VIA ANIMATICS.
• I’m here for Varrick calling Bataar Jr. out. Actually imma keep calling him Junior just to piss him off. FUCK YOU, JUNIOR.

Chapter 7: Reunion

• KORRA HAS FINALLY RETURNED TO REPUBLIC CITY, GOD BLESS. NAGA KNOWS.

• Bolin and Varrick on the land.
• KORRASAMI. THE SLIGHT BLUSH. GOD BLESS. AND THE MAKO HUG. DON’T KILL IT, WU.
• “What’s going with you two?” * the gay levels increase *
• Let’s be real, this Team Avatar is all about the bickering.

Chapter 8: Remembrance

• Oh yay, a flashback episode… great.
  • Actually, Nick slashed Book 4’s budget, meaning it was either this flashback episode, or fire some of the staff. I feel this was the best route. At least they tried to make it intriguing with some new animation, and give us some character development in the process.
• Here’s to Wu calling Mako out on his fuckboy nature. But seriously, I give no fucks for this flashback session. I mean, at least it fleshes out Wu and Mako’s friendship, how Mako views Korra, and gives Yin time to shine.
  • “Naughty Mako! You take after your grandfather!”
  • “I wasn’t dating Asami.” YES. YES YOU WERE. YOU WENT ON MULTIPLE DATES AND FLIRTED WITH HER CONSTANTLY
• Mako can’t emotion to save his fucking life my god.
• OH EW NO GET PIERROT OFF MY SCREEN.
• KORRASAMI YES. YES.
  • “You’re so sweet.” ALL THE GAY, YES. GIVE ME ALL THE GAY.
• I actually like that we’re using this lookback to give Korra some development and build Korra and Asami’s relationship.

• I bet if we could do this Ember Island Players style, it’d be Varrick producing the show and making fun of Books 1 and 2. I’d be down for that. But I guess Varrick’s section kinda makes up for it.
• THE VILLAINS ON THE PHONE AND MAKING FUN OF UNALAQ I FUCKING CAN’T BREATHE. THEY KNEW WE HATED HIM.

Chapter 9: Beyond the Wilds

• RYU HAS RETURNED. And dyed his hair. Okay then.
• “I’m gonna poke it with a stick.” Every white person in a horror movie ever.
• Wow, Opal is full of angst this season. I kinda like it.
• I love Korra’s new spirit powers.
• FIRELORD IZUMI YES. Interesting that the Water Tribes are staying out of this.
• BOLIN HAS LIVED.
• Izumi makes real good sense on this. I totally get why she’d want to prevent the Fire Nation getting involved in another huge war. Still would’ve loved to see how much the Fire Nation has changed.
• Awe, poor Bolin.
• YES LIN READY TO SAVE HER FAMILY. I AM SO PROUD OF HER.
• THESE THREE ARE HUGGING BUT WE ARE MISSING ASAMI. WE’RE NOT DOING BOOK 2 AGAIN DAMMIT.

• Jinora’s scream there was so weird my god. I can’t help but laugh.

• Oh my god I think Opal took some lessons in “Oh my god she’s terrifying” from Eska. Or maybe Bolin is just cursed with falling for women with psychopathic tendencies.

  • I’m not the only one who checked to see if Varrick was crossing his fingers, right?

• Nice reveal of Zaheer with him floating. Also, ZAHAIR IS BACK. Nice beard, by the way.
• Zaheer, that was mean, stop fucking with Korra.
• Take a shot every time they say “spirit.” My god.
• I kinda like that Korra is learning from her enemies like Toph said. I love this so much. PTSD is never that simple.
• Zaheer has this odd respect for Korra that I kinda like. THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN KUVIRA WAS MENTIONED. He legit feels awful for the power vacuum he created.
• God the imagery is so good. And I can vouch letting your memories play out can really do good. You have to accept this shit, because repressing it only makes it worse down the line, and numbs you out in the meantime (Not only from pain but from joy.).

• Of course it’s not over, Kuvira. I’m sure once she conquered the United Republic, she was gonna move onto the Fire Nation for “reparations for the Hundred Year War,” and then conquer the air temples and Water Tribes cuz why the fuck not at that point.
  • Nice integrating this conflict, though, cuz it was very present in The Promise comics with the Fire Nation colonies and with the Earth Queen last season.

• I like that the final battle is in Republic City, where it all began.

• When people say Korra was a terrible Avatar, SHOW THEM THIS. SHE’S GROWN SO MUCH.
• KORRASAMI YES. I mean I know people have an issue with the little development they got, and I get that, but the only reason this happened at all was cuz it was the series finale. This is also why they didn’t kiss. The fact they were a couple at all on Nickelodeon is a miracle.
  • The comics touch on this more, along with LGBT issues in this world in general. GOD BLESS THE COMICS.

Overall

• BOOKS 1 AND 2 WERE WORTH IT TO GET 3 AND 4 MY GOD THESE SEASONS WERE NEARLY PERFECT.
• Still pissed these were all online only. Like wtf Nickelodeon (Fuckelodeon)?
• THIS SEASON WAS SO GOOD. I remember having some issues with it, but really I ADORED IT. I think 3 and 4 are equal to me, and THEY WERE SO WORTH SUFFERING THROUGH 1 AND 2 FOR.
